How safe do you feel in North Herts?

Published:

An article from North Herts District Council

We want to know how safe you feel in North Herts – and what matters most when it comes to community safety. Whether you’re concerned about anti-social behaviour, violent crime, neighbourhood issues, or violence against women and girls, your views directly help shape local priorities.

North Herts remains one of the lowest‑crime areas in Hertfordshire, but we know feeling safe is just as important as crime statistics. By taking a few minutes to complete our community safety survey, you can tell us what’s working well and where you think more support is needed.

The North Herts Community Safety Partnership (CSP) – which brings together North Herts Council, Hertfordshire Constabulary, Hertfordshire County Council, Herts Fire & Rescue Service, local housing providers and other partners – publishes an annual action plan setting out how we're tackling crime and supporting communities.

Recent work includes the women’s safety event held in Letchworth, safety talks in schools regarding the dangers of drugs, anti-social behaviour (ASB), violence against women and girls, and targeted action at ASB hotspots. The survey asks about your top community safety concerns and whether you feel the perception of crime locally matches the reality.

Cllr Mick Debenham, Executive Member for Regulatory at North Herts Council, said:

“Safety is a fundamental part of feeling connected to where you live, work or visit. North Herts is a safe district, but we know that people’s lived experiences matter just as much as the data.

“This survey is your chance to tell us what really affects you and your community. Your feedback helps us direct our efforts, strengthen what’s working and address the areas where you feel more needs to be done.”

James Lant, Neighbourhood Inspector for North Herts, added:

“We can only tackle the issues that matter most if we hear them directly from the people who experience them.

“Your insights help shape our policing approach and ensure our work reflects real concerns on the ground. By sharing your views, you play an active role in making North Herts even safer.”

Please complete the community safety survey before March 27.
