Recommended activities for teenagers


Have you got a teenager and struggle to find things they want to do?

As a mum of two young boys, I’m no expert on what teenagers like to do BUT I have asked my social media followers for recommendations, so here are their top picks:

In Hitchin

My (after school) Art Club
– monthly drawing club for young artists aged 10+.


Ickle Drama
- Drama classes for children from Reception to Sixth Form during term time, as well as holiday stage courses.


Herts Young Sopranos & Altos
– This award-winning Hitchin based choir is a fantastic group for young people to sing current pop songs, as well as popular musical theatre, gospel, medleys and mashups.


ATSK Karate Club
- The Hitchin Dojo for the Association of Traditional Shotokan Karate (ATSK) welcomes students of all ages and abilities. Just come along to learn self-defense and get fit in a fun and safe environment for all.


Market Theatre Kids’ Club
- The Market Theatre provides Drama Classes for 5-17 year olds on Friday afternoons and Saturdays. Classes feature acting, text work, improvisation, movement, singing, characterisation and much more. 


Brooks Gym
– Boxing and Muay Thai Sessions for 12-16 year olds from beginners to experienced.


Hitchin Youth Brass Band
- a friendly Brass Band with an active concert and contesting schedule.


– Drama, Dance and Singing Classes in Hitchin.


Climb Hitchin
- Climb Hitchin is a charity group promoting and supporting both indoor and outdoor climbing in Hitchin and the surrounding areas. To attend, both the parent AND the young person(s) must be present throughout the session. The parent must be an Experienced climber who has been signed-off.


Jigsaw Performing Arts
- dedicated to developing performance skills, promoting self-expression and building confidence. Students enjoy is having fun through drama, singing and dance classes, while making lots of new friends.


Further Afield

Agent Brains Escape Rooms, Letchworth - A live action game where players work together to find clues, solve puzzles and accomplish tasks in order to successfully complete their mission within 60 minutes.


Activity Days at Herrings Green Farm, Wilstead
– Experience one of many Bird of Prey and alpacas encounters.


Skateboarding at The Pioneer, St Albans
– Skate School, group lessons or during the holidays, learn a new skill or perfect your boarding.


Alpaca Experiences at Yew Tree Alpacas, Buntingford
- Introductory courses, groups visits or 1:1 walking an Alpaca.


Arrows Elite, Biggleswade
- Arrows Elite Cheerleading and Gymnastics is a community organisation set up to enable young people to realise their full potential through Cheerleading & Gymnastics.
