about us

I’m Lucie and I live in Ickleford, a village in Hitchin. I moved here 6 years ago with my husband and our then 11 month old from Stevenage Old Town, but I’m originally from wheathampstead and Harpenden.

I’m mum to 7 and 3 year old boys, who would give the Duracell bunny a run for his money, so we’re always out and about exploring new places and running off their energy!

I started Mum’s guide to Hitchin 2 1/2 years ago as we were (kind of) coming out of lockdown and I was on maternity leave with my second son. Lockdown parents had missed out on so much and I wanted to make it easy for families to find local information, playgroups, classes and things to do. My background is in marketing, so I’ve really loved setting up the website and planning content that appeals to families.

I’m hugely passionate about supporting parents and helping to show that whilst parenting is an incredible and rewarding experience, it can also be exhausting, overwhelming, lonely and make you wonder what happened to the “old you.”

I hate how social media can make people feel inadequate, particularly when it comes to raising children, and my aim with Mum’s guide to Hitchin is to help in any way I can to make parenting easier for you, so I try to be open and honest about what I find hard, and fill the website with as much useful info as I can.

We’re all just muddling through doing our best and I assure you, you’re doing a great job.

If there’s ever anything else you’d like to see on the site, then please just let me know

And do say hi if you see us out and about!

About Mum’s Guide To Ltd

Mum's Guide To Ltd began in 2012 when four mums from Harpenden set-up a website to give local families in a comprehensive, one-stop shop to find all the information they needed about living in the area with children.  The site quickly grew to become the most popular site for Harpenden parents and carers. In 2017 the mums decided to spread their wings by launching Mum’s guide to UK giving parents across the country the opportunity to set up their own local Mum’s Guide To sites.

Our philosophy is quite simple:

  • Each site focuses on a single town and is run by local parents.
  • It covers children of all ages from bumps to teens.
  • It’s as comprehensive as possible - covering activities and things to do, parties, local facilities, services and child-friendly businesses.
  • We are pro-active about seeking out new businesses and keeping the information up-to-date.
  • A basic listing is always free so even the smallest groups and new businesses can be included.
