Two of North Hertfordshire’s most popular outdoor swimming spots will reopen next month as the summer season gets underway.
The lido at Hitchin Swimming and Fitness Centre and Letchworth Lido will both welcome visitors back from Saturday 23 May.
The much-loved facilities, operated by Everyone Active on behalf of North Herts Council, are expected to draw large crowds once again following their winter closure.
Last summer, Hitchin Lido recorded 27,901 visits, while Letchworth Lido attracted 46,678 visitors during its milestone 90th anniversary season.
Letchworth Lido, which first opened in 1935, remains a historic attraction in the town, while Hitchin Lido continues to be a firm favourite for outdoor swimming and relaxing in the sun.
Both sites are currently undergoing routine maintenance and preparation work ahead of reopening, as teams get them ready for the busy summer period.
A range of sessions and activities will return, including lane swimming, family swims and special events throughout the season.
Floating sound baths will return at both sites, alongside solstice swims to mark the longest day of the year.
Tim Melvin, contract manager for Everyone Active in North Herts, said: “We’re really pleased to be reopening both Hitchin and Letchworth lidos soon for the 2026 season. They are hugely valued by the local community and we’re looking forward to welcoming back familiar faces as well as new visitors.
“Outdoor swimming is a great way for people to stay active and enjoy the summer, and both sites offer a fantastic setting for that.”
