In a world where so much of life has moved online — conversations, friendships, even community updates — I’ve found myself wanting to hold onto something a bit more traditional. Something real. Something you can hold in your hands, pass to a neighbour, or leave on someone’s doorstep to brighten their day.
That’s why I started my Katie’s PRIDE newsletter.
It’s been more than just a project for me. It’s been my lifeline — my way out of the darkness when life felt overwhelming. Creating it reminded me of something simple but important: even broken crayons can still colour. You don’t have to be perfect to make something beautiful. You just have to keep going.
The newsletter became my way of doing that. A way to share kindness, encouragement, and little moments of hope in a form that feels personal and human. Not a scroll. Not a notification. Something you can sit with for a moment, away from the noise.
But keeping a printed newsletter going takes time, energy, and resources. To help it stay afloat — and to make sure I can keep offering it to the community — I’m slowly turning Katie’s PRIDE into a small, meaningful brand. Nothing commercial or flashy. Just practical, affordable items that carry the same message of kindness, unity, and hope.
The newsletter is still the heart of everything. The brand simply helps support it, so I can keep this tradition alive in a world that’s rushing towards digital everything.
I believe there’s still room for the small, human things that remind us we’re part of a community. That we’re not alone. That kindness still matters.
Katie’s PRIDE is my way of keeping that spirit going here in Hitchin — a little bit of hope, unity, and connection in a world that sometimes feels like it’s rushing past us.
And if even one person feels seen, encouraged, or uplifted because of it, then the tradition is worth keeping alive.
