Tunnel through time to the world of the Romans - with a visit to Welwyn Roman Baths. You can't take a hot bath any more - the boiler went out about 1,800 years ago when the Romans left! But you can see some fascinating remains which have survived from their time. Learn about how the Romans liked to relax with an elegant culture of bathing, and admire their creativity and style. The bath house remains are a scheduled ancient monument and were once part of a fine villa. The layout of the cold, warm and hot rooms and the heating system are remarkably well preserved. The baths are ingeniously preserved in a steel vault under the A1(M) motorway at its junction with the A1000 - just off the central roundabout of the Welwyn By-Pass. You can find out how this vault was built. Also on display are archaeological finds from the Welwyn area and an exhibition devoted to the history of the site, which was uncovered during the 1960s and 70s by the Welwyn Archaeological Society.

Due to Government guidance on play areas, our play equipment and play areas must stay closed. GoApe and the cafe will also remain closed for now. Toilets will be limited to help people with their responsibility to social distance. BBQs are not permitted and you cannot bring a BBQ on to site. This is to discourage group gatherings and prevent fires. If you visit Wendover Woods, remember it is your responsibility to follow the new guidance on staying safe outside your home. We are sure many people will be keen to get out and about, so to avoid crowds, please be aware we may need to close the car park if it is full. We are cleaning our car parking machines throughout the day and you can wash your hands but for your own safety please consider bringing hand sanitiser with you to use after touching the machines. If you are uncomfortable with the idea of touching the car park payment machines, you can pay for car parking using the Glide app on your Apple or Android mobile phone or you may want to consider becoming a member. As well as supporting the forest you will receive a 12 month car park pass. Find out more. Please have a safe and relaxing visit. If you are cycling, please be careful and wear a helmet to help prevent injuries. Thank you for your us as we are doing our best for you: be kind to our staff and respectful of our residents and your fellow visitors.
