Discover the creatures lurking in the hidden depths of the waters - from the tiny water flea to the mighty dragonfly nymph, the ponds of Rye Meads are full of a variety of amazing animals!
Available from 10am-4pm Thursday to Sunday during the summer holidays. No need to book, just turn up on the day! (Please be aware there will be no pond dipping on Mondays, Tuesdays or Wednesdays).
All pond dipping equipment is provided for £4.50 per kit, and your pond dipping session will last approximately 25 minutes. Please do not bring your own nets as you won't be able to use them in our pond. This is a self-led activity.

The Longest Yarn 2: Britain at War

Every day throughout August you can experience The Longest Yarn 2: Britain at War, a 60-metre-long knitted and crocheted artwork commemorating the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day. This intricate 3D exhibition, handcrafted by skilled artisans, brings to life the stories, resilience, and triumph of different aspects of World War 2.
In 2024, to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings, retired Normandy resident Tansy Forster organised The Longest Yarn, an 80-metre-long knitted depiction of the landings that paid homage to the Hollywood film The Longest Day (1962). Now her sequel, The Longest Yarn 2: Britain at War - which relates scenes from the UK's home front between September 1939 and VE Day will be coming to COAM in August.

Read any six library books. All reading counts including listening to e-audiobooks, and parents or carers reading to younger ones.
After every two books, come back and tell us something about the books to collect stickers.
Once they have read all six books and completed the challenge, children will receive a personalised certificate and a medal, whilst stocks last.
They will also be entered into our prize draw to win a ticket to a creative, interactive workshop with Sean Taylor, an award-winning author.
The challenge finishes on Saturday 6 September (or Sunday 7 September if your local branch is open).

Every day throughout August you can experience The Longest Yarn 2: Britain at War, a 60-metre-long knitted and crocheted artwork commemorating the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day. This intricate 3D exhibition, handcrafted by skilled artisans, brings to life the stories, resilience, and triumph of different aspects of World War 2.
In 2024, to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings, retired Normandy resident Tansy Forster organised The Longest Yarn, an 80-metre-long knitted depiction of the landings that paid homage to the Hollywood film The Longest Day (1962). Now her sequel, The Longest Yarn 2: Britain at War - which relates scenes from the UK's home front between September 1939 and VE Day will be coming to COAM in August.

Read any six library books. All reading counts including listening to e-audiobooks, and parents or carers reading to younger ones.
After every two books, come back and tell us something about the books to collect stickers.
Once they have read all six books and completed the challenge, children will receive a personalised certificate and a medal, whilst stocks last.
They will also be entered into our prize draw to win a ticket to a creative, interactive workshop with Sean Taylor, an award-winning author.
The challenge finishes on Saturday 6 September (or Sunday 7 September if your local branch is open).

Discover what life was really like in an ancient tribal village, where families lived together in hand-built roundhouses, warmed by crackling hearth fires and thatched against the wind.
See and feel the clothing made from hand-spun wool and woven fabrics, dyed with natural plant colours. Watch as skilled craftspeople demonstrate the art of rope-making from plant fibres, the delicate shaping of amber into stunning jewellery, and the ancient secrets of flint knapping used to create tools and weapons.

From 5 July, sign up for FREE in branch at your library
Read any six library books. All reading counts including listening to e-audiobooks, and parents or carers reading to younger ones.
After every two books, come back and tell us something about the books to collect stickers.
Once they have read all six books and completed the challenge, children will receive a personalised certificate and a medal, whilst stocks last.
They will also be entered into our prize draw to win a ticket to a creative, interactive workshop with Sean Taylor, an award-winning author.
The challenge finishes on Saturday 6 September (or Sunday 7 September if your local branch is open).
