A message from North Herts District Council...
Work is starting on Monday 14 July to revamp the skatepark at King George V Recreation Ground in Hitchin.
Over the next few months, the site will be transformed into a bigger, better and more inclusive space for skaters, BMXers and scooter riders, with the new skatepark set to open in the autumn.
The £250,000 project is being delivered by North Herts Council in partnership with Groundwork East and has been shaped by local riders throughout the design process.
Cllr Amy Allen, North Herts Council’s Executive Member for Environment, said: “It’s great news that the Skatepark project is starting. We know how important this space is for so many – but especially young people, who need places where they feel welcome.
“Thanks to brilliant input from local skaters, we’ve got a design that’s going to look amazing. Whether you’re just starting out or have serious tricks up your sleeve, the new park is going to be something special!”
The park will be closed during construction. Regrettably, it’ll be out of action for the summer holidays, but it will be well worth the wait.
