Nominations are now open for the 2026 North Herts Heroes awards, an annual event that celebrates outstanding, local people. The awards, organised by North Herts Council, recognise and celebrate the remarkable individuals who go above and beyond to make a genuine difference in their local communities across North Herts.
Residents are invited to nominate volunteers, community champions, and inspirational people who deserve recognition for their selfless contributions. Those who embody the spirit of community, working tirelessly, often behind the scenes, to improve the lives of others in the North Herts district.
Cllr Keith Hoskins, Chair of North Herts Council, said: "The North Herts Heroes awards are a great opportunity for us to formally thank the incredible people who form the backbone of our community."
"Every year, we are both impressed and humbled by the dedication and sheer community spirit of our nominees. If you know someone who has made a big impact, improved a neighbour's wellbeing, or dedicated years of service to a local cause, the council wants to hear about them. This is our chance to show them how much their work is valued."
Nominations are open across several categories, ensuring a wide range of contributions can be celebrated:
- Caring Award (sponsored by Nyaradzo Funeral Services): For an individual who has gone the extra mile to support others, whether through a tough time or with day-to-day tasks.
- Dedication Award (sponsored by Veolia): To honour someone who has dedicated a significant amount of time and effort over many years to help their community.
- Green Award (sponsored by John O’Conner): For an eco-conscious individual or group who has helped make North Herts a better place to live through environmental projects like litter picks, gardening, or recycling drives.
- Health Award (sponsored by Altro): Recognises an individual who has gone above and beyond to improve the health and wellbeing of people in the district.
- Young Star Award (sponsored by Willmott Dixon): (for those aged 19 or under) To celebrate an inspirational young person who has contributed to their community or overcome challenges to positively impact others.
The deadline for nominations is Sunday, 4 January 2026.
Winners will be selected by a judging panel, including Cllr Keith Hoskins - Chair of the Council and a variety of representatives and sponsors. The heroes will receive a trophy as a symbol of their dedication and a gift voucher as a token of appreciation all while being celebrated at the dedicated North Herts Heroes event in March of 2026.
Don't miss the chance to give a local hero the recognition they deserve.
