20 ways to get involved in Random Acts of Kindness Day

Published:

Who doesn’t love a random act of kindness? It can really make someone’s day, whilst also enhancing your own wellbeing and feelings of happiness!

And yet all too often, we find ourselves forgetting the simple things that bring joy to others, so even though this article was originally published for Random Acts of Kindness Day 2023 (Friday Feb 17th), I’ve kept the list live in case you want to spread a little kindness any time of the year

Here are 20 things you could do to brighten someone’s day:

  1. Make an effort to smile and say hello to everyone you meet today.
  2. If you see another parent/carer struggling while out and about, offer to help.
  3. Tell someone they look really nice today.
  4. Send flowers to a friend or give some to a stranger who looks like they may need cheering up.
  5. If you hear good news, spread the news and share the good vibes.
  6. Offer to babysit for a friend.
  7. Tell your family members how much you love and appreciate them.
  8. Make someone laugh.
  9. Drop a little gift on a friend’s doorstep.
  10. Tell someone you know that you are proud of them.
  11. Put a surprise note or drawing on someone’s desk at work.
  12. Engage in conversation with a shop assistant when paying at the till.
  13. Make and send a care package to someone who needs it.
  14. Make a cup of tea for your colleagues.
  15. Lend your ear - listen to someone who is having a bad day.
  16. Pick up some rubbish lying around in the street.
  17. Send a GIF or nice text to someone to let them know you’re thinking about them.
  18. Pop into a coffee shop and ask to pay for a coffee for them to give to someone later that day for free.
  19. Donate money or old clothes to charity.
  20. Offer to do some shopping or spend some time with an elderly neighbour.

No acts are too big or small, so let’s spread some kindness and happiness!

Let me know if you’ve got involved, what you did and how it worked out. I’d love to share some great examples of Random Acts of Kindness around Hitchin and the surrounding area.

Have a great day full of kindness!
