A message from North Herts District Council...
A total of £11,676 in community grants has been allocated to various Hitchin organisations, following recommendations from the Hitchin Community Forum and approval by North Herts Council’s Executive Member for Governance, Councillor Daniel Allen.
The funding will help strengthen youth activities, improve wellbeing, enhance outdoor recreation, and support volunteering across Hitchin.
The grants awarded include:
12th Hitchin Scouts - £1,248
Funding will support the rental of additional storage space, allowing the group to safely store equipment used for camps and outdoor activities, helping them continue offering high‑quality experiences for young people.
6th Hitchin Scouts - £900
A contribution towards a one‑night residential camp, giving Beavers, Cubs and Scouts the chance to build confidence, resilience and independence through outdoor learning and adventure.
Hitchin District Scout Council - £1,500
Support towards replacing ageing Pico sailing dinghies used in their training programme. The new boats will ensure safe, high‑quality sailing sessions for hundreds of young people each year.
North Herts Ramblers - £1,500
Funding to install a permanent lectern outside Hitchin Library showcasing the Hitchin Outer Orbital Path (HOOP). The display will encourage more residents to explore local walking routes and enjoy the outdoors.
Letchworth & Hitchin Sea Cadets - £818
Support for nature‑based activities for Junior Sea Cadets, helping them learn about wildlife, sustainability and environmental stewardship through hands‑on experiences. Aswell as a contribution towards a pilot family camping trip, designed to help young cadets and their families connect with nature and build outdoor skills together.
Baldock Junior Badminton Club - £730
Funding to launch new weekly badminton and social sessions for older adults in Hitchin, supporting physical activity, confidence and social connection.
Friends of Whitehill & Highbury Schools - £980
A grant to purchase musical instruments including ukuleles, percussion kits and a digital drum kit, expanding access to music-making for pupils and community groups.
Headway Hertfordshire - £1,500
Support for their Hitchin peer support group for people affected by acquired brain injury, helping fund staff, volunteers and enriching activities that aid recovery and wellbeing.
Tilehouse Counselling - £1,000
Funding to deliver workshops and group therapy sessions for young people and parents, offering accessible mental health support and resilience‑building.
North Herts Centre for Voluntary Service - £1,500
A contribution towards the Hitchin Volunteer Fair in June 2026, part of the district‑wide Year of Volunteering campaign aimed at strengthening and diversifying local volunteering.

These projects reflect the creativity, compassion and commitment that make Hitchin such a great place.”
