Half term is never far away, so I've been busy adding lots of events to the website!

There's also a category packed with local Holiday Clubs, so if you’re working over half term or simply looking for the kids to go off and have fun for a few hours, so you can have some time, then you can find all the info here.

You’ll be pleased to know that there is LOADS going on to keep all ages entertained and to suit all budgets both in Hitchin and beyond (look out for the FREE and LOW COST events and attractions label, along with the places where I've written a review in my Tried and Tested section of the website).

This is a summary of my top picks, but you'll find EVERYTHING in the What's On Guide, which covers the whole year here.

Clowning Around! Half Term Crafts for Kids at British Schools Museum
Tue 17th February 2026 - Thu 19th February 2026 10am-12pm
Roll up, roll up, for all the fun of the circus! Step right into Clowning Around, a lively children's craft session bursting with colour, creativity and fun. Located in our historic Monitorial Schoolroom at the British Schools Museum, children will enjoy creating a selection of playful clowns to take home. Sessions run from 10am to 12pm on Tuesday 17, Wednesday 18 and Thursday 19 February 2026, during the February half term holiday. £8 per participating child. Non-participating younger siblings and adults are free. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times. Younger siblings are very welcome to play with the toys provided in the Monitorial Schoolroom while their paying sibling crafts. The Café at the Museum will be open for snacks and drinks, and an accessible toilet is available. We look forward to welcoming you for a joyful, creative clown-themed session, perfect for half term fun!

Beauty and the Beast Jr. at Woodside Hall

Young Thespians presents...Disney's Beauty and the Beast Jr.
Join the Young Thespians in February 2026 as the award-winning animated film and stage play comes to life in this romantic and beloved take on the classic fairytale. Disney's Beauty and the Beast Jr. is a fantastic adaptation of the story of transformation and tolerance, featuring some of the most popular songs ever written by Alan Menken and the late Howard Ashman.

I Grew Up 80s is a lovingly curated time capsule of over 200 treasures showcasing the youthful exuberance of this much-loved decade.

Family Forest School at the Triangle Garden Hitchin

Join us for some fun in the wild! Triangle Garden Family Forest School is for families with children aged 3-12 to get outdoors, have fun, learn new skills, and make new friends. Playing outdoors the Forest School way builds confidence, allows risk taking and encourages team building skills. All sessions are lead by a qualified Forest School leader in collaboration with Culturewood CiC. Please come to this event on foot or cycle or using public transport. Parking is very restricted and we want to actively encourage participants to travel sustainably.

Our resident exotic animal specialist, Mark Amey, is back with a fun, interactive event designed especially for those who are curious about the natural world. Mark is a passionate expert with years of experience as an exotic and domestic animal keeper, breeder, zoologist, environmentalist, and conservationist. What he doesn't know about animals isn't worth knowing, so much so he has even been on BBC's QI! Our Education Officer will also be running complimentary 30-minute craft sessions after each show, where you can join a guided hunt for natural materials in the newly renovated fairy woodland followed by a crafting session in the party barn themed around the animals the children have encountered.
During a lively 45‑minute educational event, Mark will introduce a range of exotic species, sharing fascinating facts, conservation stories, and the unique behaviours that make each creature extraordinary. Learn how these animals live, what they eat, and why protecting their habitats matters.
After the talk, families will have the chance to enjoy hands‑on animal interactions. You can hold gentle creatures, ask questions, and capture the moment with memorable photo opportunities. It's the perfect blend of learning and adventure, designed to spark curiosity and build confidence around animals.

Snowdrops at Benington Lordship Gardens, Stevenage

The gardens are opened every year in February when they are carpeted in a spectacular display of naturalised snowdrops around the remains of the Norman keep and surrounding moat.
