Events to celebrate the Jubilee

Half Term is here, and whilst the What’s On guide is jam-packed with great events, I thought it would be worth highlighting the Platinum Jubilee celebrations (of which there are MANY!), as I know there's a lot of focus on celebrating this historic event.

What’s going on in Hitchin?



The Big Screen and Beacon Lighting, Market Square – Thurs June 2nd

Much like when everyone came to watch the Royal Wedding, the Trooping of the Colour will be screening in the Market Square 10:30am – 12:30pm, followed by Hitchin Band and the Beacon lighting.


Platinum Jubilee Carnival Day, Market Square – Friday June 3rd

Carnival day, organised by Tilehouse rotary club: a colourful and exciting parade (12:00 - 14:00) starting at the Football club, making its way through the town and ending on the Market Square. Throughout the afternoon, there will be buskers preforming a variety of songs and classic fair games for all the family to get involved in.



Kids’ Day in Hitchin Town Centre – Sat June 4th

10:00-16:00 - A day for the Kids- There will be a 'crafting a queen' sculpture workshop with opportunities for some make-and-take crafts, face painting, a performance from Hitchin concert band, plus stalls and talks from local schools & organisations.



Crown Making at Mama Baby Play - Mon May 30th - Weds June 1st

Free arts & craft out to make your own crown, ready for The Jubilee from Monday 30th May - Wednesday 1st June.


Jubilee Crafts at The Pear Tree Café - Mon May 30th - Thurs June 2nd

Jubilee Crafts at The Pear Tree Café. Enjoy a hot drink and cake, lunch or even a tasty breakfast, while your little one enjoys Jubilee Crafts.



Paddington Bear Craft Day - Thurs June 2nd

Aimed at children aged 3-12, come along and join a fun-filled craft session, making Paddington card roll models.


Ickle Fest – Thurs June 2nd – Sun June 5th

I might be a bit biased on this one, as I’m an Ickleford resident, but it’s well worth a trip (or a few!) here over the weekend as there is lots going on!

Highlights include:

2 car boot sales on Thursday 2nd, plus lighting of the beacon.

CL Hair and Beauty on Friday 3rd: CL Hair and Beauty will be opening up their garden offering Plaits/Dutch Braids/Hair Glitter & Hand Scrubs/ Hand Massage at a small cost! Plus a special guest for Frozen fans.

Ickleford Creative Fair on Saturday 4th: The creative fair is returning to the Village Hall for a Jubilee Special. Again there will be an amazing mix of local creatives offering their wares along with live music, food and drink.

Plus Live music, sport, craft fairs, traditional village fair games, cream teas, Ickleford’s Got Talent and Sunday Street Party!



Afternoon Tea at North Herts Museum – Sat June 4th

Join us on our beautiful outdoor Terrace for royally delicious sandwiches, scones and themed cakes...as well as a glass of Prosecco!



Afternoon Tea at Hitchin Garden Centre

Join us on Jubilee weekend, June 2nd - June 4th, to celebrate the Queen and her Platinum Jubilee in style with an Afternoon Tea for £10 per person.

Stevenage - Beacon Lighting - Thursday June 2nd

Come along to the town centre on 2nd June for the lighting of the town's beacon among a series of other fantastic celebrations of her 70 years as our monarch.




Stevenage  Broadwater Day - Friday June 3rd


We have it all: stationary stalls, charities, dog shows, live celebrity DJ's. Kids rides, attractions and much much more!



Stevenage - Picnic in the Park

We hope of this event will encourage the Stevenage Community to celebrate their connections and come together in a spirit of fun and friendship. Jubilee celebrations will be the central focal point to this event.


Farrowby Farm Jubilee Quiz Trail – Mon May 30th – Sat June 4th

A fun quiz on our farm trail with an additional activity booklet and a sweet treat for just £1.00 per child.




Jubilee Afternoon Tea at Belisily – Sun June 5th

Come along for an Afternoon Tea where the kids can also play! It will be a luxurious lunch which includes a selection of Sandwiches, Pastries and Desserts, and a drink.




Princess Jubilee Party at Belisily, Letchworth - Sat June 4th

Princess Party with Crown Making and Biscuit Decorating included! The kids will be entertained by more than one Princess.


The Jubilee Trail, Jordan’s Mill – Sat May 28th – Sun June 5th

Pick up a trail sheet from the Mill Shop and explore the Mill Garden, Meadow and Woodland on our Royal Children's Trail. Discover 10 royal enclosures including a throne, castle and princess! Test your knowledge with interesting facts and questions to answer.



Drive-In Jubilee Beacon Lighting, Shuttleworth – Thurs June 2nd

Join us from 20.00 - 22.00 to celebrate the Jubilee Beacons Lighting and begin the Platinum Jubilee celebrations. This will be a drive-in style event with all cars parked on the grass paddocks facing the runway. We will have music playing over the tannoy system, the bar will be serving hot and cold drinks plus a beer or two and children can visit the Jubilee playground until 21.15.



Shuttleworth Jubilee Flying Circus – Sun June 5th

Our Jubilee Flying Circus is a truly unique day out. Where else could you enjoy a variety of wonderful circus acts, take a relaxing stroll around a beautiful regency garden, admire the period features of a grand mansion house, before being dazzled by a show-stopping air show featuring barnstormers and incredible wing walkers?





Jubilee Family Fun Day at Hertford Castle – Thurs June 2nd

From 12pm-4pm, the Town Council will be running a FREE family fun day at Hertford
Castle. There will be a host of activities for all to enjoy, including a Castle Open Day,
traditional summer fete, games and activities, food and drink, music and much more.



Jubilee Beacon Lighting – Biggleswade - Thurs June 2nd

Local food and drink, musical entertainment, Beacon at 9:20pm.

Jubilee on The Square, Biggleswade – Sun June 5th

Local food and drink, family-friendly entertainment, Street party.


Picnic and Jubilee Party, Upper Caldecote – Sun June 5th

Lots of village organisations are coming together to create a day of celebrations for the queens Jubilee with lots of activites for children, freshly baked cakes and live music from Nick Moyster.

Potton Jubilee Events – Thurs June 2nd – Sun June 5th

Thursday 2nd June - 1pm - Theatre of Widdershins presents "Pigs & Bears Don't Come in Pairs"

Saturday 4th June - 7pm - A Gala Concert of Choral & Brass Highlights

Platinum Jubilee Concert, Sandy – Thurs June 2nd

As well as a variety of live music performances, the event programme will include the presentation of the Mayor of Sandy's Community Awards and the lighting of a beacon, to form part of a beacon chain across the UK and Commonwealth on 2nd June 2022. Away from the stage, there will also be family activities and local information stands.





St Albans Platinum Party – Thurs June 2nd

A free street party held in St Albans City Centre to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee with live music and food stalls.





Jubilee Family Day – Mill Green Museum, Hatfield – Thurs June 2nd

Visit our new exhibition 'Coronation Celebrations’, plus try out our fun garden games and craft activities, enjoy our 50s musical entertainment, and refresh yourselves with themed food from The Miller's Kitchen.





RAF Museum Hendon Pageant – Thurs June 2nd – Sat June 4th

A fun-filled festival of storytelling, living history and activities for the whole family. Also celebrating the Queen’s Jubilee with cream teas in the pop-up tearoom.





Queen’s Jubilee Celebration, Nene Valley Railway - Thurs June 2nd – Sun June 5th

 Join us for a trip on a Jubilee to celebrate The Jubilee Event across four days of Traditional English Celebrations with fun for all the family





Streatley Jubilee Party – Fri June 3rd

Magician and facepainting, bubble car and ice cream van, afternoon tea, plus disco and hog roast.





Giant Jubilee Picnic at Ashridge House – Sun June 5th

To celebrate Queen Elizabeth II's incredible 70-year reign, Ashridge House is inviting you to feast in the grounds of this former royal residence. You'll also be able to meet Tudor kings and queens, play historic royal games, and dance around the May pole! As if that's not enough, your day will also be accompanied by a band and a live stream of the royal jubilee activities on the big screen!



Zoobilee at Whipsnade Zoo - Throughout Half Term

From 28 May to 5 June, we're putting the flags out at Whipsnade Zoo in celebration of our royal patron, HM The Queen! Join in with our wild teddy bears' picnic, try your hand at a traditional fête game or treat yourself and your family to a pre-bookable afternoon tea box.


And that's a wrap! More Jubilee events than I ever thought possible!
