Running throughout July
Join us this July for Walks, Talks, Concerts, Theatre, Comedy, Exhibitions, Art Trail and more across Hitchin. Hitchin Festival was established in July 1991 as a one week programme of events. Since then it has grown into a month long celebration of the culture and entertainment on offer in Hitchin. Each July (and since 2023 each November/December) the festival programme promotes a huge variety of events including poetry, art exhibitions, concerts, theatre, talks, walks, comedy and kids.

Explore Humour, History, and Creativity at "The World of Martin Brown: Horrible Histories and Other Dazzling Drawings" North Herts Museum proudly hosts a major touring exhibition by Seven Stories, The National Centre for Children's Books: "The World of Martin Brown: Horrible Histories and Other Dazzling Drawings". This exhibition was first created by the South West Heritage Trust in collaboration with Martin Brown and Events of Wonder for display at The Museum of Somerset in Taunton, the exhibition showcases original cartoons, artwork, and exclusive behind-the-scenes insights from acclaimed illustrator Martin Brown. Visitors will enjoy original illustrations from the beloved Horrible Histories series, explore Martin's early cartoon work, and discover his recent children's books like Lesser Spotted Animals and Nell and the Cave Bear.

Summer Crafts for Kids at The British Schools Museum
5 / 6 / 7 August, 12 / 13 / 14 August, 19 / 20 / 21 August 2025
Located in our unique historic Monitorial Schoolroom, join us this August for three weeks of creative children's craft sessions, each one themed around a different world of inspiration. From outer space to underwater scenes and people from the past and present, there's something to spark every imagination here at the British Schools Museum.
Sessions run from 10am to 12pm on the following dates:
Sky and Space: Tuesday 5 August, Wednesday 6 August and Thursday 7 August
Waterworld: Tuesday 12 August, Wednesday 13 August and Thursday 14 August
People: Tuesday 19 August, Wednesday 20 August and Thursday 21 August
£7.50 per participating child (non-participating younger siblings and accompanying adults go free).
Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times. Younger siblings are very welcome and can enjoy the toys provided in the Schoolroom while their older siblings craft. The Café at the Museum will be open for drinks and snacks, and an accessible toilet is available on site.

All movies are rated PG for Parental Guidance. PG stands for Parental Guidance. This means a film is suitable for general viewing, but some scenes may be unsuitable for young children. A PG film should not unsettle a child aged around eight or older. Parents should consider whether the content may upset younger, or more sensitive children.
