Hitchin will sparkle this Christmas thanks to North Herts Council grant

Published:

Hitchin BID has been awarded a total of £2,000* following recommendations from North Herts Council’s Hitchin Area Forum on 04 July 2023.

The grant will go towards the cost of replacing the Christmas lights to improve the festive display in 2023 and beyond.

Tom Hardy, Hitchin BID Manager said: “We are pleased that North Herts Council have recognised the importance of our Christmas lights in the town centre. They play an important part in the vibrancy of the area during the festive season and this grant will go a long way to ensure the lights are enjoyed for years to come.

Cllr Alistair Willoughby, Executive Member for Community & Partnerships, who approved the funding under delegated decision, said: “The BID provides a stunning festive display each year. It is fantastic that we can support them to continue doing this and I look forward to seeing Hitchin lit up again this year!"

Cllr Ian Albert, Area Forum Chair, added: "Christmas is a special time for our towns. This grant will provide a much-improved light display for Hitchin during the 2023 Christmas period and beyond. This, in turn, will support the retail and hospitality sector during what is one of their most important trading periods.”
