๐ When Is the Best Time to Go Pumpkin Picking?
The main pumpkin picking season in Hertfordshire and the surrounding areas is October, with many farms opening from the beginning of the month and running through Halloween.
The October half-term is particularly popular, so weekend and half-term sessions can sell out quickly.
If you have flexibility, visiting earlier in October or on a weekday can mean fewer crowds and, in some cases, a bigger choice of pumpkins.
๐ What Should We Wear Pumpkin Picking?
Wellies are highly recommended!
Pumpkin fields can become extremely muddy after wet weather, so leave the nice trainers at home.
We recommend:
๐ฅพ Wellies or sturdy boots
๐งฅ Waterproof coat
๐ Clothes you don't mind getting muddy
๐งค Gloves if you're planning on carrying or cutting pumpkins
๐งบ A bag or trolley for smaller pumpkins
๐ธ Your camera – because autumn pumpkin photos are practically compulsory!
Always check the individual farm's guidance before visiting.
๐ Do You Need to Book Pumpkin Picking?
For many of the larger pumpkin farms and Halloween attractions, yes – booking in advance is strongly recommended and sometimes essential.
Some farms operate timed entry, while others allow visitors to turn up without booking.
Always check the venue's website before setting off, particularly during October half term and Halloween weekend, when popular sessions can sell out.
