Hello Autumn!
Its one of my favourite times of the year....
I love crisp Autumn walks where the sun is still shining but there's a definite chill in the air.
Below I have listed our top 5 places that are child friendly for Autumn walks, All of them (except Cedars Nature Centre - which has a nominal fee) are FREE although carparking charges may occur.
Our top 5 places for Autumn Walks (in and around Hertford)
Cedars Park is less that 15 minutes drive from Hertford and perfect for an autumn wander. Jump in huge piles of leaves, before warming up with a hot drink from the café and don't forget to nip in to see the animals. For just £1 per child (age over 2) and £2 per adult you can visit the nature centre and take part in a whole host of activities between 11am-3pm, including meeting a skunk, feeding the Meerkats and Feeding the Fish.
Again only a short drive from Hertford Rye Meads is a fabulous family friendly nature reserve. With lots of room to roam and discover. The education room offers an inside space to buy a hot drink and so some colouring too. There is a small charge for car parking.
3: Pets Corner Harlow and Park.
Pets' Corner is a small, friendly farm located in Harlow Town Park. It has a large selection of traditional farm animals, such as rabbits, chickens and ducks, more exotic animals such as Reindeer, Llamas and Alpacas, as well as a number of rare breeds including Red Poll cows, Essex Saddleback and Tamworth pigs. Pets' Corner is free to enter but welcomes donations in the box on site. Recently they have refurbished the park behind Pets corner which is a fantastic addition to the centre and perfect for little ones to spend a few hours. Free Car Parking for up to 2 hours is available but limited.
Panshanger Park is 400 hectares of stunning countryside. You can enjoy the surroundings of ancient woodland, veteran oak trees and views across the Mimram Valley. Some areas of earlier mineral extraction have been restored to agricultural land, which supports winter populations of endangered farmland birds and summer breeding populations of lapwing. On the lakes and the river you may see kingfishers, great crested grebes and, if you are lucky, an osprey passing though on migration. You can also see the numerous fairy doors and houses through the woodland (take the gate on the right from the thieves lane carpark and walk up).
5: Parndon Wood Nature Reserve
A Hidden Gem! Children can hire bug hunting kits, have fun in the den building area, hire binoculars and complete seasonal spotter sheets and the cafe does a lovely coffee and cake!
If you visit any of these places on our recommendation do let us know:) Do you have any other places you love to visit in the Autumn? We'd love to hear your feedback.
Have fun Jumping in leaves!
Lots of love
