Mum's Guide to Hertford's Top Halloween Picks

 

It feels like the summer holidays have only just ended and yet here we are nearly October half term and two of my favorite events of the year, Halloween and Fireworks!!

 

I am going to list local firework events in a separate post so keep an eye out for that.

 

But for now I will highlight some of the local events that have caught my eye and a few further afield that may be worth a little extra journey.

Full Days Out

If a full day of Halloween fun is what you are after these events have you covered

 

 

The Pumpkin Festivel at Willows Activity Farm 

Willows is one of the pricer options on our list but if you are after a fun packed full day full of Halloween fun they are one of the best. Pick your FREE pumpkin from the Willows Pumpkin Patch and enjoy a magical day of fun! Each child is invited to dress up and pick their own pumpkin to take home or carve in the Carving Cavern (ideal if you don't want the mess at home) during the Pumpkin Festival. Your entry also includes arts and crafts, Pumpkin Olympics and both the Pumpkin Show and Magic-Ween Show with Samtastic. Tricks, treats and prizes for best, plus there is all your Willows favourites including meeting Peter Rabbit and friends.  I've shared a picture of me at last years Pumpkin festivel (pregnant with my second little boy!) always lots of fun!

 

 

 

 

Cammas hall

 Raved about locally the Pumpkins are charged by weight at 90p per kilo making this a budget friendly activity.

Theres also a 🎃 Halloween themed Maize Maize - Walt Wizard has forgotten a word from his favourite spell - can you help him find it? There's a sweet reward for everyone completing the maze and a chance to enter a prize draw . £3.50 per person or £3 per person for families of four or more. 2 years and under are free.

🎃 Halloween colouring and crafts. (from 20th October) From £1 and

🎃 Halloween themed face painting (from 20th October). £3.50

As well as a café and farm shop if you want to make more of a day of it.

 

Howl-a-ween at Paradise Wildlife Park

Throughout the half term, they will be running their #fabzoolus Howl-o-ween hunt where the kids can win some yummy treats and also be in with a chance to win a family Animal experience. On arrival all children receive free wolf masks! There are free Pumpkin carving sessions for the children at our Pump'King' of the Jungle station. You can experience the fear factor of getting up close and personal with some of their creepy crawly animals in the daily Animal Spooktacular Shows or join in with their ghostly shows and games at the Safari Stage.

We all know the school holidays can be a costly time, so ive hand picked these local events which are budget friendly ranging in price for FREE to £2 per child

 

Cedars Nature Centre

Between the 27th October and the 4th November Cedars Nature centre Will be hosting their Halloween Spooktacular Half Term. Entrance to Cedars Nature Centre is on a donation basis as always and will be open from 11am-3pm daily.With a daily skunk meet and greet at the stage at 12pm and a Daily meerkat feed at the meerkat enclosure at 1pm.

Additional activities (optional) for a small additional cost below:

 Pumpkin trail- £1 per trail Grab a pumpkin trail quiz and follow search for the pumpkins once complete collect your trail badge. The Creepy Crawly cave (£1 entrance fee) Step inside and meet thr tarantula, scorpion, giant snails, giant stick insects and royal python! Don't forget the free lucky dip inside if you can face the gloop!

 

RSPB Rye Meads- Halloween Activities

No need to book - just drop in. Price: £2 per Child plus parking charge. Help the good witch Esmerelda Raventree to foil Morag Spindlefingers' evil plans by completing Wild Challenge activities and finding clues! What clues will you discover in nature to help Esmerelda? Build a den, follow tracks and signs, face your fears, create a creepy craft and take part in our photo competition by posing with our Giant Rye Meads Pumpkin! By taking part you also receive a Wild Challenge sticker and certificate.

 

Hertford Museum –Halloween fun!

Drop in this October half term and enjoy our Spooktacular crafts inspired by pumpkins, ghosts and spiders! Free spaces available for families on lower incomes. £2 per child

 

Want to stay home and looking for some craft inspiration? Local company The Party Bag Fairy is selling wonderful hand poured Halloween crayons from just 50 pence and Jenna's Crafty Monkey's is selling wonderful paint your own Halloween kits for some Halloween craft fun!

Dangerous and Deadly Trail at Tring Museum

Fri 26th October 2018 2018

Tip-toe around the Museum in search of the most dangerous animals in Africa. Find the animals, use stickers to create a savannah scene and discover fascinating facts. Complete the trail and receive a chocolate treat. £1 per trail.

 

Museum by Torchlight-Tring Natural History Museum,

Fri 26th October 2018

 

Join us for this special event where the Museum will be open out of hours and in the dark. Bring your torch to spot animals on your turn around the corner. Create your very own spooktastic creature to take home with you in our craft activity (£2). Wander the galleries with your torch to complete our trail challenge (£1). Be sure to dress up with all your friends and family in a ghoulish costume or scary animal! Suitable for ages 5+. Free. Suggested donation £2.

 

Spooktacular Halloween Party

Join Melody Monkey for a Spooktacular Halloween Party with lots of music, dancing, parachute, bubbles, lights, games and lots more! Just £12.50 per child, including a drink and biscuit. Fancy Dress optional! Aimed at children aged 2-6 .

 

Witchy Poos Halloween Party

Halloween at RSPB Rye Meads

No need to book - just drop in. Price: £6 per Child (members) £8 per child (non-members) plus parking charge. Join us for a jam-packed day of Halloween fun! This is not a day to miss! Activities include: Bog Dipping - discover the creepy creatures that lurk beneath the surface. Face Painting - transform into your favourite creature of the night. Spooky Stories - join Esmerelda Raventree for a story in our secret garden. Wild Things at Halloween - take part in our nature trail and help the good witch Esmerelda foil Morag Spindlefingers' evil plans. Fancy Dress - come along in your best fancy dress! Creepy Craft - gather materials to build a spooky Twig Monster. Giant Pumpkin of Rye Meads Photo Competition - take a photo of you posing with the Giant Pumpkin to be in with the chance of winning a brand new Bat Detecting Kit!

 

Hertford Theatre- also have a full range of cinema and theatre on during the holidays.

One for the Older ones

The Howl at Mead Open Farm

Grab your mates and escape 5 huge Horror Mazes with live creatures at every twist & turn this October. The Howl is open for 12 nights only at Mead Open Farm in Leighton Buzzard. There's a Bar, Live Music, Street Food & Festival Entertainment too, so whether you're a scream queen or scared silly you won't want to miss it-  Strictly for older teens/ Adults.
