Join in the 2022 Summer Reading Challenge

Published:

If you find yourself craving a bit of peace and relaxation this summer, why not encourage your children to join the Summer Reading Challenge taking place at all libraries across Hertfordshire, including at Harpenden Library.  This year's challenge launches on Saturday 9th July and the Reading Agency have teamed up with the Science Museum Group for a very special science-themed challenge.

Children can pop into the library any time from Saturday to pick up a pack and join the ‘Gadgeteers’ to discover the amazing science and innovation behind the world around them, including some of their favourite things! The ‘Gadgeteers’ are six young friends who work together to transform their community centre into the perfect venue to hold a summer party, using their imagination, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.

For every 2 books read, children can collect stickers to complete the challenge and audio books count too!  Using the stickers and the core pack, they can help the six friends to improve their community centre and host the perfect summer party! Books don’t have to be on the theme of science they can be anything that your child enjoys reading, but if you need some inspiration, the Reading Agency have put together a list of suggested books.

Children who read 6 books and complete the challenge by 3 September will receive a special medal, certificate, and pencil and can also be entered into a prize draw to win an opportunity to meet an author.
