Step back in time and discover what life was like during the Tudor England Era. Join our costumed guides in the gardens of Knebworth House, where they will use object handling to bring history to life and help you discover what life was like in the past. Visitors will also have the chance to dress up in Tudor costumes and experience the past for themselves.

This event is included with general admission to site. Free for season ticket holders. No pre booking is required.

This activity is designed for children aged 4 to 10 years old. Children always require adult supervision.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join us on an adventure into the world of Forest School, with our family focused sessions. We will be exploring the park, building dens, going on bug hunts, learning about nature, bush craft, and more. The event is run in conjunction with CultureWood, who are a specialist and highly regarded service provider in Hertfordshire.

Please note that if it is raining, Forest School activities will continue so come prepared with a waterproof and wear suitable clothing for exploring the woods. Available from 10am-4pm Wednesday to Sunday during the summer holidays. No need to book, just turn up on the day! (Please be aware there will be no pond dipping on Mondays or Tuesdays).

Celebrate South Asian Heritage Month with the "Striving for Unity" Exhibition at The Galleria

This July, The Galleria is proud to host a special pop-up exhibition from the Khalsa Youth Football Academy. Running from 1st - 31st July, between 10am and 6pm daily, the "Striving for Unity" exhibition offers our visitors a unique look into cultural heritage, community resilience, and the power of sport.

The exhibition, led by Bal Singh, showcases over three decades of work by the Khalsa FA. Join us for a celebration of the artwork of Rob Biddulph, best-selling author/illustrator whose books include Blown Away, Odd Dog Out, Kevin, Show and Tell and the Peanut Jones series.

In the exhibition you can view a wide selection of Rob's amazing drawings, ranging from the post-it notes he put in his daughter's packed lunch box every day of her primary school career (over 2000 of them!) to the original illustrations from his Guinness World Record breaking #DrawWithRob online art classes.

Explore Rob's world and, with the help of Peanut Jones and her magical pencil that makes anything she draws come to life, see what you can create yourself with this engaging and interactive exhibition.

This year, Mill Green Museum will be joining in the fun and hosting a series of African Drumming Workshops on Thursday the 30th of July. Workshops are FREE to participate in and open to all.

We're packing the summer holidays with fun roleplay and costume dress-up activities, so junior animal-lovers can explore what it's like to work at Whipsnade Zoo, from feeding the animals to caring for their health and even helping to protect them in the wild.

Celebrate South Asian Heritage Month with the "Striving for Unity" Exhibition at The Galleria

This July, The Galleria is proud to host a special pop-up exhibition from the Khalsa Youth Football Academy. Running from 1st - 31st July, between 10am and 6pm daily, the "Striving for Unity" exhibition offers our visitors a unique look into cultural heritage, community resilience, and the power of sport.

The exhibition, led by Bal Singh, showcases over three decades of work by the Khalsa FA. Developed in collaboration with the ACE-accredited Garden City Collection, the display highlights how a local futsal club transformed into a symbol of togetherness, actively challenging racism and inequality within the community.

Enter the wonderful world of Rob Biddulph!
Join us for a celebration of the artwork of Rob Biddulph, best-selling author/illustrator whose books include Blown Away, Odd Dog Out, Kevin, Show and Tell and the Peanut Jones series.

In the exhibition you can view a wide selection of Rob's amazing drawings, ranging from the post-it notes he put in his daughter's packed lunch box every day of her primary school career (over 2000 of them!) to the original illustrations from his Guinness World Record breaking #DrawWithRob online art classes.

Explore Rob's world and, with the help of Peanut Jones and her magical pencil that makes anything she draws come to life, see what you can create yourself with this engaging and interactive exhibition.

Performed by Imajica Theatre, "Don't Worry...Bee Happy" is an original relaxed and immersive musical theatre production written for a younger audience. This heartwarming tale is a wonderful way to learn more about bees. Filled with positivity and ideas to help the busy little honey bee and our planet. Suitable for 3-8 years - family friendly and an inclusive performance.

Each school holiday we run Storyboats for younger children. This is a gentle 40 minute cruise down the River Gade to where it meets the Grand Union Canal, with wildlife spotting while listening to stories. The books we read a picture books, so the audience can spot the hidden elements and learn about new creatures. Suitable for ages 4 to 8 years, it is the ideal way to fill time between the more costly holiday outings. We feed the waterfowl we encounter and if we are very lucky we see the kingfisher.

We run special themed boats at Halloween and Christmas, with goody bags and an extra special passenger in a red suit at Christmas.

All children must be accompanied by an adult, all passengers must have a ticket. Tickets can be purchased from our website.

Join us for a night camping under the stars and connect with nature as the nocturnal wildlife awakens on the reserve.

The Big Wild Sleep Out is a unique opportunity for families to spend a night out in the wild!

Arriving late in the afternoon there will be time to pitch your tent before heading out for pond dipping. After dinner (bring your own or join us for a fish and chip run!) we'll have a walk around the reserve with bat detectors as the sun sets and learn all about the nocturnal wildlife of Rye Meads. We will then come back to the Visitor Centre for a hot chocolate before falling asleep to the sounds of night-time nature. Ever wondered what it's like to work at the zoo?
This summer, from 18 July - 2 September, all young explorers are invited to become part of our Zoo Crew! We're packing the summer holidays with fun roleplay and costume dress-up activities, so junior animal-lovers can explore what it's like to work at Whipsnade Zoo, from feeding the animals to caring for their health and even helping to protect them in the wild.

With basic and more advanced challenges in each activity station, kids of all ages will find something to enjoy.

Join us for a celebration of the artwork of Rob Biddulph, best-selling author/illustrator whose books include Blown Away, Odd Dog Out, Kevin, Show and Tell and the Peanut Jones series.

In the exhibition you can view a wide selection of Rob's amazing drawings, ranging from the post-it notes he put in his daughter's packed lunch box every day of her primary school career (over 2000 of them!) to the original illustrations from his Guinness World Record breaking #DrawWithRob online art classes.

Explore Rob's world and, with the help of Peanut Jones and her magical pencil that makes anything she draws come to life, see what you can create yourself with this engaging and interactive exhibition.

Join The Lord Chamberlain's Men in Knebworth Gardens on Sunday 2nd August for an open-air performance of Othello, one of the most captivating and thrilling plays ever written. See it performed how William Shakespeare first saw it, as The Lord Chamberlain's Men - with a history stretching back to Shakespeare's original company - present this play in the open air, with an all male cast and Elizabethan costumes, music and dance.

Bring along your own chairs, blankets, and a picnic, and settle in for a great experience. Our Garden Terrace Tea Room will be open, offering a tempting selection of treats and refreshments.

Steaming Days: This is when we have a full-size steam train in action, ready to take you for a ride up and down our track! We also have miniature ride-on trains which are run by our sister society VAMES, (there is a small £1.50 charge for this per person - under 3s are free). Grab your kites and join us for an exhilarating two-day festival as we rediscover the power of kites in connecting us all.

1st and 2nd August between 10.00am and 5.00pm.

POND DIPPING IS BACK FOR THE SUMMER HOLIDAYS!!

Discover the creatures lurking in the hidden depths of the waters - from the tiny water flea to the mighty dragonfly nymph, the ponds of Rye Meads are full of a variety of amazing animals!

Available from 10am-4pm Wednesday to Sunday during the summer holidays. No need to book, just turn up on the day! (Please be aware there will be no pond dipping on Mondays or Tuesdays).

All pond dipping equipment is provided for £4.50 per kit, and your pond dipping session will last approximately 25 minutes. Please do not bring your own nets as you won't be able to use them in our pond. This is a self-led activity.

Train and Track Play are returning with their massive play track and a huge variety of toy trains and cars. These organised sessions are a fantastic way for children to integrate, socialise, and let their imaginations run wild on the tracks.
The planned session times are:

• 1:30pm-2:30pm

We offer drop-in craft sessions during school holidays. These paper based projects are arranged for you to achieve a guaranteed result. Often seasonally themed, we lay out all the materials and you work your way around the workstations to create your unique piece of work. What you make you take home with you.

This is ideal for a short school holiday infill. Suitable for ages 4 to 12, adults are welcome to get involved too! Make the mess here, take your artwork home and we clean up!
