What's on October Half Term in Hertford(and beyond)

What shall we do this October half term?

Well here we are on the cusp of another October half term. Time flies huh? October half term is one of my favourites .

This article will list physical activities, attractions and events and we also have a special Halloween at Home article packed to the rafters with ideas to plan to perfect fun filled Halloween and half term at home for your little ones which you can find here.

So where to begin?

Pumpkin Picking

You can find our guide to where to pick and in some cases even carve or scoop your pumpkins here.

We absolutely love Cammas Hall to pick pumpkins and also Willows Activity Farm (although this is part of a full day out experience and not a stand alone activity.) But Dane End Pumpkin Patch and Hatters Farm are also strong suggestions.

Days Out

There are some wonderful days out on offer locally this half term and you can find the full range of them here. Using the search bar to narrow any particular dates you are interested in. 

As mentioned above Willows Activity Farm is bringing back its pumpkin festival .

Enjoy a pumpkin-tastic family day out at Willows Activity Farm, including a FREE pumpkin for every paid for child admission and child member.

Your visit includes all of the activities at Willows Activity Farm; the Peter Rabbit Adventure Playground, funfair rides, shows, meet and greets, adventure play, tractor ride, inflatable fun, Adventure Golf, Pumpkin Hunt and Gourds Grotto - for one all inclusive price.

Aldenham Country Park Spook Fest- is a fun for the whole family event intended to add some spooky fun to your day on the Farm with lots of fun activities taking place to delight you and your little ones. We blogged this one last year and it was lots of fun. 

Lee Valley Park Farm Halloween Festival 

Another full filled day out locally full of Halloween fun!

Hertfordshire Zoo are also running special evening events this year called Dinos after Dark. To enable your family to take a magical trip around our World of Dinosaurs and see the dinosaurs come to life by moonlight.

Brand New Event at Hertfordshire Zoo this half term.

From 24th October - 2nd November 2025, visitors can come face-to-face with 18 incredible brick-built dinosaurs, each carefully crafted with thousands of colourful bricks to create stunning life-sized prehistoric models. From a towering T-Rex to gentle giants like the Brachiosaurus, these amazing sculptures are set to capture the imaginations of all ages.

The Samhain Celebrations are also a really special day out this time of year.

Cedars Nature Centre also have a brilliant Halloween party on the 31st where you can meet a delightfully gloomy resident of Nevermore academy.

There is a fantastic Halloween Party on at Southern Maltings for 13-17 year olds on Halloween and its FREE!

A little further afield

Old Mcdonalds Farm are also running a Halloween Festival  with some some spooky goings on down at the Farm.

Live Theatre and Cinema

The spotlight are killing it this half term with lots of offerings from toddlers to teens! See more here.
