Budget friendly options
Times are tough for many this year and so we've made finding free and budget friendly options a top priority.
There are several totally free events and activities in Hertford Town this summer which you may like to add to your diaries.
- The Summer holidays kick off with the fantastic free annual event Teddy Bears Picnic at Hertford Castle on 20th July. Details here.
- Theres also another FREE Children's Trail this summer courtesy of The Yarn Bombers.
- And Hertford play day also returns to the town centre on the 6th August with child friendly activities games and more which are mostly FREE.
- Theres also Rock at the castle on the 3rd August with music, face painting and fun activities the order of the day.
- Of course theres also this years summer reading challenge to sign up for as a fantastic free activity all the family can get involved in.
- The local museums such as Hertford Museum, Ware Museum and Lowewood Museum are also fantastic resources for a fun activity over the summer with free entry, free trails and more to discover.
- Hertford museum also has drop in crafts on set tuesday-thursday throughout the summer for a small additional fee details here.
- My Petpals FREE Workshops at Pets at Home Hertford.
- Rhyme time at Hertford Castle is running on selected mondays and is FREE.
- Cedars Nature Centre once again is running their 6 weeks of Cedars where entry to their small zoo and all their summer activities are just £2.40 per person with a whole schedule of summer events more to follow.
- Harlow Pets Corner is FREE as always and with a fantastic play park just next door you can easily spend most of the day there for a budget friendly trip.
- Stanborough Lakes also has their free splash park for a warm day BUT it is first come first serve and be mindful of parking charges.
- We also love RSPB Rye Meads
- If you are a fan of classic buses there is a hertford classic bus running day.
- Theres also some super fun lego and duplo sessions in hertford library.
Ware Priory
Ware town council has come up top again with their wide range of free activities on over the summer, from bush craft, climbing wall, archery, animals and so much more they have it all! More details here.

Fun days out and activities
Mid range prices attractions - this is a new category for this year and we've listed attractions which fall between a budget day out and a big ticket attraction.

Here are some of our favourites.
- Kidsfest at Lee Valley Park Farms -We absolutely loved this event previously!
- Audley End Miniature Railway - one of our favourite activities, we've never had a bad visit they have lots on this summer during their summer festival including new punting activity!
- Hertfordshire Zoo - always a fab day out lots of special event weekends over the summer.
- Willows Activity Farm - we are members here, action packed a full day of fun. They are hosting their annual summer spectacular.
- Knebworth House, gardens and dinosaur trails - We love Knebworth and have spent many a happy day spotting dinosaurs and playing in fort knebworth.
- Royal Gunpowder Mills - Only open for select open days this year.
- Whitewebbs Museum of Transport - generally open the last sunday of the month well worth a visit.
- RAF Museum Henlow -Recommended by many of our followers.
- Old Mcdonalds Farm - we have only visited a few times but it is loved by our followers.
Activity ideas
- We love Lee Valley Boat Centre and will be visiting again this summer for sure!
- Theres also a range of ideas for bowling, mini golf, foot golf and local activity centres on our things to do page.
