"What is this feeling so sudden and new?" Robin Hood - a legendary adventure at South Mill Arts

Published:

On Saturday 7th December we were once again invited back to South Mill Arts for the Gala evening of their Panto which for 2024 is- Robin Hood - A Legendary adventure .

Setting the scene!

We absolutely love South Mill Arts situated in Bishops Stortford a mere 30 minutes drive from Hertford. The theatre is so welcoming and has a feel community feel which has the ability to make everyone feel at home with the theatre being just the right size to create the perfect atmosphere.

There is free parking at South Mill Arts but it can be busy so we would recommend arriving early to guarantee a spot (there is further parking (Pay and Display) at the station), If parking at the theatre don't forget to enter your car registration at reception.

As always the theming inside the theatre reception is absolutely on point and really helped to set the scene as we enjoyed a drink preshow in the bar area. There are a selection of lights, foam hands and a robin hood themed hat available to purchase from £4 in the reception area. My youngest loved the Robin Hat and has worn it regularly since.

The Show

Robin Hood - A legendary adventure is a fun take on a classic tale with all the charm of the original with a panto twist.

There are many local Christmas shows to chose from each year but very few are of the standard and calibre of South Mill Arts making it a must see in our opinion a cast of all singing, all dancing West End actors take to the stage in this premier professional pantomime. Everything is just to such a high standard, the entire production is truly spectacular.

Robin returns home to discover his house has been stolen by The Sheriff of Nottingham and his friends and beloved mother are now living in the forest and the people are being taxed beyond measure!

Reunited with his childhood friend Marian can the pair beat the wicked sheriff of Nottingham and bring happiness to the people once more?

Travel down the witches road , where all is not quite as it seems to see whether this tale has a happy ending.

Robin Hood - a legendary adventure has every thing you could want from a panto this festive time, a lovable hero, a hugely talented cast, jokes to laugh your socks (or green tights!) off and a warm fuzzy glow guaranteed. A show that appeals across the generations keeping little ones engaged and the older audiences entertained, highly recommended.

Everyone was blown away by the performance and I did not see one single person leaving without a smile on their face.

My 6 year old has seen 3 pantos this week and he said that Robin Hood was his favourite and he scored it 10/10.

Meet the cast

Daniel Slade is the hero of the tale and throughly entertains audiences with his performance. He is every bit the hero we are all rooting for with the ability to make the entire audience feel like a long lost friend.

Etta Williams is back to South Mill Arts once more and dazzles in the role of Marian, comical, convincing and utterly enchanting with a voice to die for!

Megan Crawford plays Little Joan (if you see what they did there!) and was a total revelation her performance was exquisite and even in a supporting role she was utterly captivating - an explosion of total joy!

Matt Slade plays the role of Will Scarlett, (who longs to be on the stage- ironically!) I was surprised to learn this is his first professional panto role as he really shone in this convincing performance, fun fact- Matt is the real life brother of Daniel Slade who is playing Robin (what a talented family!).

Of course no panto is complete with a Dame and a Baddie and this show has totally pulled it out of the bag with fantastic representations of both!

Dame Mother Hood was played by Tommy Pegg who was utterly hilarious and had the entire audience in complete stitches, everything you'd expect from a pantomime dame and then some!

And of course any performance of Robin Hood needs the Sheriff of Nottingham brought to life by Nathan French who was in my opinion a stand out performer! The baddie we all love to hate and what a voice!!!!

Robin Hood - A legendary adventure is running at South Mill Arts until 4th January and you can book your tickets here.

Thank you for inviting us along.
