Harpenden Town Council is supporting a new initiative called Harpenden Cares. Harpenden Cares is a community-led response to the coronavirus, which involves lots of Harpenden’s brilliant voluntary sector groups. The initiative aims to support local people at risk, help keep key services running, and to be a trusted source of information.

Harpenden Cares will:

• Offer a befriending service for local vulnerable and/or isolated people

• Help deliver essential supplies and medication to vulnerable and/or isolated people

• Offer street-level support to engage vulnerable and/or isolated people

• Act as a general trusted source of information

Updates will be provided on the Harpenden Cares Facebook page

UPDATE 3rd April 2020

A new contact centre managed by The Harpenden Trust has been set up. It is currently open 10am-2pm Monday to Friday. If you are isolated and require support or essential supplies, please contact 01582 460457 and volunteers will be on hand to help you.

A Harpenden Cares website has also been set up, www.harpendencares.org. The website has further information on how to get help or volunteer your time, in addition to other information and resources.

Help monitoring usage of The Nickey Line

Can You Help With Our Headcount This Month?

The Nickey Line has seen heavy use over the lockdown period – we believe well over the last major count which registered over 4000 ‘normal’ uses per week in early July 2013.

We want to confirm this and to lay down a marker for the future, for example for when we need to underpin requests for funding to help maintain the Line or to improve safe access or get better surfaces for us all to use.... Read more

James Marshal Foundation - Financial Support for Young People

The James Marshall Foundation can support eligible children and young people (under 25 years) living in Harpenden & Wheathampstead with educational and career-related items/activities.

Since the beginning of April, they have provided over 40 reconditioned or new laptops to eligible pupils in the local community, so they are able to access their schoolwork remotely.

Please contact them if you think they can help.

Via the Amazon wishlist.

And you can also donate via their Just Giving page.

Supermarket Check-in App

There a free app called 'Supermarket Check In' aiming to give an indicator to the queuing times at local supermarkets. At the tie of writing there’s not widespread usage in Harpenden, but if more of us download it and remember to “check-in” with our waiting time it could be a handy tool for avoiding long queues!
