Situated in 60 acres of stunning parkland just 8 miles from Harpenden and 10 miles from St Albans, Beechwood Park offers a uniquely child-centred learning environment for boys and girls aged 3 to 13. Come along to our Open Morning and meet our Head, Mr Christian Pritchard, hear from our pupils about their Beechwood Park experience, and tour our spectacular site with our enthusiastic pupil guides. Hertfordshire Libraries are looking for people over the age of 14 to volunteer as helpers in their Summer Reading Challenge this summer. This a good opportunity for young people looking for some volunteering experience for their CV or college/university applications.
The scheme takes place every year during the summer holidays and encourages children and their families to visit their local library and take part in a fun, free activity, reading books, chatting to volunteers about them and earning rewards.

The scheme runs Saturday 4 July to Saturday 5 September 2026.
Full training is given and volunteers are asked to give a minimum of 12 hours.

After an amazing 2024 event, we’re thrilled to bring Harpenden’s favourite family festival back to the playing fields of Sir John Lawes School on Saturday 4th July 2026.
Expect a full day of live music, great food, family activities and festival fun for all ages....

Brand new for Summer 2026, Nature Day is fun-filled discovery day, taking place on Saturday 6th June 2026, celebrating Batford Springs Nature Reserve. With guided tours, river dipping, bug hunting, trails and hands on activities, this event brings together local organisations to showcase wildlife and our local green spaces. Perfect for families, nature lovers and curious explorers! 
Batford Springs Local Nature Reserve boasts a mosaic of habitats including a rare chalk lined stream, reed fen, wet woodland, meadows, hedgerows and the River Lea. Come along to find out about its world-wide importance and the incredible creatures that live there.
The event takes place Batford Springs Local Nature Reserve, near the Marquis Lane Play Area 11am - 4pm, and as well as all the fun activities above there will also be live music by Abbie Gathard, Reverbs and Hanging Bandits.
