Covering an acre, our 'Big Bales Stack' is a mountain of huge oat and wheat straw bales cut and carted from our farm close to Harpenden. From the summit you get a glorious view over the pumpkins and from base camp, a circuit of bales to leap and lunge across. Our tractor tyre sandpit is also available for little ones to enjoy.

This year, The BIG Draw celebrate 25 years with the theme 'Drawn Together', highlighting how creativity unites us and how collaboration and connection are at the heart of making.

Around the reserve there are fact files of different types of fungi that you can find in the UK, use your trail sheet to collect answers about them and help us learn all about the fascinating world of fungi. When you're finished, have a go at designing your own fungus and then take your trail sheet home and continue your research further.

Suitable for the whole family, this trail will take you around the reserve (up to the Kingfisher hub) with stations to stop at to answer questions. The reserve is fully accessible with toilets, car park and café lite (for snacks, hot and cold drinks and ice cream).

Around the reserve there are fact files of different types of fungi that you can find in the UK, use your trail sheet to collect answers about them and help us learn all about the fascinating world of fungi. When you're finished, have a go at designing your own fungus and then take your trail sheet home and continue your research further.

Suitable for the whole family, this trail will take you around the reserve (up to the Kingfisher hub) with stations to stop at to answer questions. The reserve is fully accessible with toilets, car park and café lite (for snacks, hot and cold drinks and ice cream).

This year, The BIG Draw celebrate 25 years with the theme 'Drawn Together', highlighting how creativity unites us and how collaboration and connection are at the heart of making.

Enjoy selecting colours of glass and embellishments to make a truly unique design. Working with local mosaic artist, Audrey from Montet Designs, learn how to use professional mosaic making tools to snip tiles and produce a seasonal mosaic.

Climb to the top of St Albans Clocktower with one of our museum team to hear about why it was built and some of the ways it has been used throughout history.

As well as exploring our 12-acre patch, guests are also welcomed to shop our extensive range of pre-picked pumpkins and squash from inside The Red Shed. So whether you're looking to carve a jack-o-lantern for Halloween, create a warming seasonal dish using the freshest produce, or decorate your home for autumn, we have something for everyone to enjoy.

Covering an acre, our 'Big Bales Stack' is a mountain of huge oat and wheat straw bales cut and carted from our farm close to Harpenden. From the summit you get a glorious view over the pumpkins and from base camp, a circuit of bales to leap and lunge across. Our tractor tyre sandpit is also available for little ones to enjoy.

Everyone's favourite Aussie Blue-Heeler pup is heading to Woburn Safari Park on the Wednesday 29th October!
Little explorers can meet the blue heeler pup at intervals throughout the day on the 29th October. She will be appearing in the Safari Hangout at intervals throughout the day.
Before visiting the TV star head off on a wild adventure to spot lions, rhinos and giraffes on the Road Safari then continue the adventure on foot to spot some smaller animals such as penguins, sea lions and otters!

This half term we are opening the gates to our very own pumpkin patch at Tewin Water.

Four days only from Wednesday 29 October to Saturday 1 November.

This October Half-Term (Mon 27th - Fri 31st), escape to Celtic Harmony Camp, Brickendon, near Hertford, for our Samhain Celebration (pronounced Sow-een)! In October Half Term, take part in pond dipping at RSPB Rye Meads! Discover the creatures lurking in the hidden depths of the waters - from the tiny water flea to the mighty dragonfly nymph, the ponds of Rye Meads are full of a variety of amazing animals!

Available from 10am-4pm. No need to book, just turn up on the day!

All pond dipping equipment is provided for £4.50 per kit, and your pond dipping session will last approximately 25 minutes.

October is the perfect time to see fungi when you're out and about, and we need your help to research it! Around the reserve there are fact files of different types of fungi that you can find in the UK, use your trail sheet to collect answers about them and help us learn all about the fascinating world of fungi. When you're finished, have a go at designing your own fungus and then take your trail sheet home and continue your research further.

Suitable for the whole family, this trail will take you around the reserve (up to the Kingfisher hub) with stations to stop at to answer questions. The reserve is fully accessible with toilets, car park and café lite (for snacks, hot and cold drinks and ice cream).

As well as exploring our 12-acre patch, guests are also welcomed to shop our extensive range of pre-picked pumpkins and squash from inside The Red Shed. So whether you're looking to carve a jack-o-lantern for Halloween, create a warming seasonal dish using the freshest produce, or decorate your home for autumn, we have something for everyone to enjoy.

Covering an acre, our 'Big Bales Stack' is a mountain of huge oat and wheat straw bales cut and carted from our farm close to Harpenden. From the summit you get a glorious view over the pumpkins and from base camp, a circuit of bales to leap and lunge across. Our tractor tyre sandpit is also available for little ones to enjoy.

Learn to use your smartphone to take stunning wildlife photographs with professional photographer Jeanette. If you own a smartphone, then you own a camera, and if you own a camera, you have the ability to take amazing photos. The rules of photography are the same whether you have a smartphone or a £20k camera - composition, exposure and passion.

You'll start off in the Wildlife Trust's garden and then take a stroll through Verulamium Park, learning how to take photographs of the plants, flowers, trees and landscape along the way.
