The Hurst Children's Theatre Group boys and girls are gelling back their hair, putting on their platform shoes, twirling circular skirts and sorting out their bobby socks for their latest production. Yup, you've guessed it, it's a 1950's show, that has had the group 'rockin' and rollin' since rehearsals began in February.
'Turn your Radio On' is a show written especially for the youngsters, by the director's father, Mike Hurst. Mike was actually a big star in the 1950's and the play's written with wit and humour -taken from his own experiences of the quirky life of the music business during that time.
It tells the story of 3 young and loveable fools who are discovered by Harry Slime - Theatrical Agent, and heralded into stardom after securing the backing of the stiff upper-lipped BBC. Can they put England on the 'Rock n' Roll' map? America's biggest star, Razor Sharp, is not amused, and he tries to sabotage their plans. There's romance, intrigue, laughs and musical numbers from the 50's, supported by a professional rock 'n' roll band.
This will be the group's 37th production since its' birth 18 years ago. Their Pantomime 'Snow White' was a sell out and loved by all. Their secret is unabashed energy and enthusiasm, a chance for all the family to enjoy the magic of the theatre for a couple of hours. Full of entertainment and great music.
The cast are aged between 3-17 but adults will get as much out of this as children. You'll be laughing and singing along, all the way through.
