The Cosy Club, St Albans

Newly opened in the heart of the city, The Cosy Club feels like a nice addition to Christopher Place and we were delighted to go along to their launch event at the end of October. You may be familiar with other Cosy Club restaurants located across the country, but having never visited one before we were looking forward to trying it out.

Having taken over the old French Connection site and the snooker club that was located behind it, the restaurant, which offers all-day dining and cocktails, is much larger on the inside than it first appears.  But the layout, with its partitions and nooks and crannies, and the warm decor means that it has a nice inviting feel, and as soon as we walked in we felt it had a nice "vibe". There is also outdoor seating for warmer days and nights.

We were given a sample menu of the most popular dishes from their main menu to choose from and it was all delicious.  We started with warm sharing monkey bread (made in Cornwall with clotted cream!), then tried the crispy cauliflower tossed in a sweet chilli glaze, followed by Malvani Chicken Curry and Chestnut Mushroom, Tomato and Spinach Curry both served with with rice and flatbread, and finished it all off with Lemon and Raspberry Parfait.  (We had originally opted for the Rich Chocolate Delice, but we had a late booking and it had been very popular that evening so we'll just have to go back another time and try it!)  Prices are quite typical at around £15-£20 for a main course, with just the steak options being more expensive.

As well as being a great place to eat out as a couple or with friends, it is also definitely somewhere you could take the family. They have a children's menu, which you can take a look at on their website with all the favourites - pasta options, chicken, burgers and fish & chips, and a children's breakfast/brunch menu too. There's also baby-changing facilities available.

What else? It has free Wifi, disabled access, dogs are welcome in the bar area, and there's a private dining area too.

We had a really lovely evening. The staff were warm and welcoming, and we'll definitely be heading back again soon to sample the breakfast/brunch menu!
