What's On In St Albans - February Half Term

If you don't want to travel too far this half term, here's a round up of everything taking place right here in St Albans... 

There's lots going on at both St Albans Museum and Gallery and Verulamium Museum this half term.  At St Albans Museum, the University of Hertfordshire Planetarium will be visiting and three shows will be taking place. Celestial Explorer - Earth, Sun and Moon on 17th & 18th February is suitable for everyone, but at only 20 minutes long will particularly suit younger children. Celestial Explorer - A Tour of the Solar System on 17th February, and Celestial Explorer - Our Sky and Beyond on 18th February are both 40 minutes long, and will suit older children. Keeping with the space theme, on 19th February there is a Sun, moon and stars clay modelling workshop. Or on 20th February there's a Dragons and Dragon Eggs Modelling Workshop Sunday Crafternoon will also continue during half term on 15th February and 22nd February. All the planetarium shows, clay workshops and crafternoon sessions should be booked in advance and charges apply, however entry to the museum itself is free.

At Verulamium Museum you can enjoy Romans v Celts Wargames on 15th February or get hands-on with some Archaeology for Families on 16th and 20th February. You can drop-in to these events and they are included in the admission charge to the Museum.

Local author, Jonathon Stroud will be visiting St Albans Library on 21st February to talk about his different series Lockwood & Co, Bartimaeus and Scarlett and Browne and more, in Worlds Beyond the Page with Jonathan Stroud. This is most suitable for ages 10-14 and places must be booked in advance.

For little ones, there's a Valentine's Day Montessori Play event at The Nest on Saturday 14th February.  This is for under 5s and places must be booked in advnace.

Two different festivals fall on 17th February this year - Shrove Tuesday and Lunar New Year.  In the city centre on the day, you can enjoy the spectacle of the annual St Albans Pancake Race in aid of Home-Start Herts.  And on Monday 16th February Burston Garden Centre are holding a Chinese New Year Creative Workshop exploring traditional symbols and creating a unique artwork.  Places must be booked.

If you want to keep the kids active and give them a chance to burn off some energy, then the Pioneer Club is open daily 16th - 20th February for Half Term Scoot, Skate & Roll for ages 5+ - book ahead.

St Albans South Signal Box will hold a Special Half Term Opening on the afternoon of Wednesday 18th February 2-5pm, no need to book, just drop in and entry is free.

On Thursday 19th February Trestle School of Drama is holding an all-day workshop for ages 8-12 -  The Cloaked Castle - where participants will use drama skills and activities to uncover what the castle hides and the day ends with a performance.  You can find lots of other holiday clubs and classes taking place in St Albans and the surrounding area in our Holiday Clubs and Classes section, including Club Excel Multi-Activity Camp at Beaumont School where new customers can get 20% off their booking using the code STAMUMSGUIDE20.

St Albans Family Centre Service are running two Family Fun sessions during half term.  A SEND Family Fun session on Monday 16th February at London Colney Family Centre, and Family Fun - Little Herts session at Hilldyke Community Centre in Wheathampstead on Thursday 19th February.  Both sessions are drop-in but you must register with the Family Centre Service via their website to use their services.

For many, the arrival of February half term means spring is coming and at Willows Activity Farm that means lambs! Join them for February Frolics, 14th February - 22nd February where there will be live lambing, newborn lamb bottle feeding demonstrations as well as all the usual fun of the farm.
