Wain Wood is an ancient woodland extending to 19.2 hectares near Preston in North Hertfordshire. The site is a Site of Special Scientific Interest which was notified in 1986 under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.
It's also an excellent place to see beautiful bluebells in Spring

Originally called Rawlings Hill, because of the Mill there, it was then known as Windmill Hill after the windmill burnt down. The miller's cottage was still standing on the Hollow Lane side of the hill until 1950; and there was a house built on the hill in the 1920's, but was unpopular and is no longer there.

Aldenham Country Park is set in 100 acres of parkland adjacent to a 60 acre lake. It features Pooh Bear's 100 Aker wood which is free to visit, though there is a charge for the car park. For a charge you can book pony rides, go on a woodland adventure, visit the farm and take part in their daily events including animal feeding and meeting the farmer, or enjoy the adventure playground. Membership to the farm is available.
