Established almost 50 years ago, ART ON THE COMMON in Harpenden is Hertfordshire's premier outdoor art event.

It takes place in a wonderful location on a tree lined section of Harpenden Common near the Town Centre. The two day Harpenden event, showcases the very best of Hertfordshire's art including a range of paintings, ceramics, fine art photography, pottery, jewellery, glass, fabric and wood. All styles and genre are displayed, and with prices starting from around £2 for handmade greeting cards there's sure to be something beautiful for everyone.

The Highland Gathering comes to Harpenden on Sunday 12 July from 10.30am until 5pm at Rothamsted Park.

With children's races, go-karts, archery, pipe bands, highland dancing, live music, great food stalls, your chance to try haggis hurling and even caber tossing, there's something for all ages to enjoy.

Step back in time with Prince Rupert's Bluecoats - prepare to be transported to the 1640s, a tumultuous era of Cavaliers and Roundheads, as we explore Parliament's historic struggle against the King during the English Civil War.

Glaze Time pottery painting will be visiting Bennet's, Leyton Rd, Harpenden on Monday 20th July. This free parent & toddler group runs 9am-12pm every week in their large function room - so there's plenty of space for prams, pushchairs & little ones to left off some steam in a safe space. They also have great coffee & cake and we kindly ask that you support the venue by purchasing a drink (it means they can continue to provide this group for free).

We will be there from 930am with all of the materials (& guidance if needed) to make a gift for a special family member, a keepsake for yourself or perhaps let your little one get creative (avoiding the mess at home). For this special summer series, we're opening up both sessions to all age groups-ages 3 to 10-so families can attend together, meet others, welcome new mini-explorers, and enjoy a variety of nature-based activities! Join The Lord Chamberlain's Men in Knebworth Gardens on Sunday 2nd August for an open-air performance of Othello, one of the most captivating and thrilling plays ever written. See it performed how William Shakespeare first saw it, as The Lord Chamberlain's Men - with a history stretching back to Shakespeare's original company - present this play in the open air, with an all male cast and Elizabethan costumes, music and dance.

Bring along your own chairs, blankets, and a picnic, and settle in for a great experience. Our Garden Terrace Tea Room will be open, offering a tempting selection of treats and refreshments.

A large walk-in labyrinth of colour and light will fill the lawn at Stockwood Discovery Centre this August. Visitors are invited to don a primary-coloured cloak to become part of the colour experience and step into a new world of intense colour and light.

Colourscape is formed of many interlinked chambers of primary colours to create a labyrinth (each chamber c. 4M across). Step forwards and a long view of radiating colours appears. Another step and another view appears until you are surrounded and immersed in the most intense colour and light imaginable. Visitors have described the experience as being like "wrapped in a rainbow" or saying "I felt I could breathe colours!"
