Discover Lines of Tradition: The Rituals & Rhythms of Madhubani Art, a special exhibition by artist Harsha Basu at Chiltern Open Air Museum, celebrating the distinctive traditions and cultural heritage of Madhubani art.
Explore the intricate patterns, bold lines and rich symbolism of this traditional Indian art form through Harsha's work. Discover how Madhubani art has been passed down through generations, traditionally used to tell stories, mark important occasions and express connections with nature, community and everyday life.
Visitors can take part in a range of hands-on activities and have-a-go experiences, offering the chance to explore the patterns, motifs and techniques that make Madhubani art so distinctive. Help bring a giant communal canvas to life. A massive white sheet will be spread out for adults and children alike to draw, paint, and express their own creativity together.
This event explores the rituals and rhythms that have shaped this centuries-old artistic tradition, while showing how its techniques and visual language continue to inspire contemporary artists today.
Set within Chiltern Open Air Museum's unique historic environment, Lines of Tradition brings together art, culture and heritage, inviting visitors not only to discover a creative tradition connecting generations across time and place, but also to take part in it.
