The Forum / Focal Point Gallery
Sat 9th August 2025
3.00pm - 5.00pm
Join us at Elmer Square for our annual Big Screen Summer Cinema!
This year's programme has been selected in response to The Reading Agency annual summer reading challenge. 'Story Garden' will inspire children to tap into a world of imagination through reading, exploring the magical connection between storytelling and nature. The outdoor screenings take place on the first four Saturdays in August at 3pm - free, no booking necessary.
2 August: Shaun the Sheep (2015)
When Shaun decides to take the day off and have some fun, he gets a little more action than he asked for. A mix up with the Farmer, a caravan and a very steep hill lead them all to the Big City and it is up to Shaun and the flock to return everyone safely to the green grass of home.
9 August: Migration (2023)
A family of ducks decides to leave the safety of a New England pond for an adventurous trip to Jamaica. However, their well-laid plans quickly go awry when they get lost and wind up in New York City. The experience soon inspires them to expand their horizons, open themselves up to new friends, and accomplish more than they ever thought possible.
16 August: Paddington (2014)
A young Peruvian bear with a passion for all things British travels to London in search of a home. Finding himself lost and alone at Paddington Station, he begins to realize that city life is not all he had imagined - until he meets the kind Brown family, who read the label around his neck ('Please look after this bear. Thank you.') and offer him a temporary haven. It looks as though his luck has changed until this rarest of bears catches the eye of a museum taxidermist.
23 August: The Wild Robot (2024)
The epic adventure follows the journey of a robot-ROZZUM unit 7134, "Roz" for short-that is shipwrecked on an uninhabited island and must learn to adapt to the harsh surroundings, gradually building relationships with the animals on the island and becoming the adoptive parent of an orphaned gosling.
Early arrival is advised to find yourself a comfortable area to sit, to avoid disappointment as we will be operating a first come, first served policy. Bring your own chair or blanket to sit on the pavement or grass, respectively. Extra bins will be available, and toilets and water fountains are located inside The Forum building.
Please note that event photography may take place during this screening for the purpose of promoting future events and offers in Southend. If you do not wish to be photographed, please make an event steward or member of staff aware.
Big Screen Southend is located outside of The Forum Southend-on-Sea in Elmer Square. For the exact location, please see here.
