Enter a winter wonderland this Christmas as the Market Theatre invites you to meet The Snow Queen. We accompany Gerda on her journey to save her brother from the clutches of the cold Queen of the North. But there are obstacles in her way and she will meet characters that are not always sympathetic to her quest. Only with the help of the audience will she stand any chance of succeeding.

This reworking of the legendary and magical tale is aimed specifically at 3 -8 year olds but great fun for children of all ages.

After finding a bag of unopened letters on the countdown to Christmas, Santa's Elves have a big job on their hands to ensure no child goes without a present!  With the help of Mrs Claus and the audience, some singing, dancing, MAGIC, lots of silliness and a surprise guest - will they save Christmas just in time?
The Doorstep Elves are bringing their sell out show back to Hitchin this Christmas. Following the 35-minute performance, every child will have the opportunity to meet the elves, get a nice list certificate signed by Mrs Claus, find their name on the GIANT nice list and take part in our elf crafts. Held every year since 1997 in Holy Saviour Church during the second weekend in December, the Hitchin Christmas Tree Festival is believed to be the oldest established Christmas Tree Festival in Britain.

Around 50 trees are displayed, each decorated by an individual, school, family, local group or business to illustrate a theme of their choice. The effect in this beautiful Butterfield church is magical. Live music is featured throughout the weekend, and hot and cold lunches and teas are served in the adjacent hall. We expect to welcome over 2,000 visitors over the Festival weekend.

Celebrate the festive season with a timeless musical adaptation of Charles Dickens' 'A Christmas Carol'. Step onto the cobblestoned streets of Victorian London and enjoy a classic tale of redemption, belonging and the spirit of Christmas!

Featuring songs including 'Sing A Christmas Carol', 'Christmas Children', 'Thank You Very Much' and 'December the 25th', this production will be performed by the Hitchin Thespians along with some of our Young Thespians.

Each woodland visit includes treats from the cheeky Christmas Elves. Your doggie can choose a carrot for Rudolph from our magic barrow; and there's an opportunity for them to make a wish and hang it on the Christmas Wishing Tree and write a letter to Santa and post it in the magical letter box.

There are plenty of opportunities to take photos with Santa and his cheeky elves, and there will be a Christmas Gift for every dog from our magical Woodland Toyshop!

Christmas fancy dress is very welcome and rosettes are given to dogs in costume!

Each woodland visit includes treats from the cheeky Christmas Elves. Your doggie can choose a carrot for Rudolph from our magic barrow; and there's an opportunity for them to make a wish and hang it on the Christmas Wishing Tree and write a letter to Santa and post it in the magical letter box.

There are plenty of opportunities to take photos with Santa and his cheeky elves, and there will be a Christmas Gift for every dog from our magical Woodland Toyshop!

Donations for Sue Ryder hospice in Moggerhanger will be taken at the entrance and as always, they will be running their legendary raffle! Last year they raised £9,134 - can you help them beat that this year!

Join Snowy, our charismatic polar bear, as he travels around our galleries meeting animals from around the world. Help Snowy choose what present to give to them and answer quiz questions along the way. As you make your way around our galleries, look out for the polar bears on our display cases.

Recommended for ages 3+.

This event is not ticketed but half-terms and school holidays are particularly busy times for us. Book your free Museum entry ticket in advance.

Bring your dog/pet to see Santa in his magical woodland grotto!

Each woodland visit includes treats from the cheeky Christmas Elves. Your doggie can choose a carrot for Rudolph from our magic barrow; and there's an opportunity for them to make a wish and hang it on the Christmas Wishing Tree and write a letter to Santa and post it in the magical letter box.

There are plenty of opportunities to take photos with Santa and his cheeky elves, and there will be a Christmas Gift for every dog from our magical Woodland Toyshop!

Christmas fancy dress is very welcome and rosettes are given to dogs in costume!

Meet Father Christmas and enjoy the woodland Grotto Experience with presents.

Meet cheeky Elves on arrival, make a wish and place it on our Christmas Wish Tree. Next choose a carrot, bag-up some reindeer food to take home, before writing a letter to Santa. Wander the trail to meet Father Christmas himself in his magical grotto deep within our Winter Woodland!

Each visit with Father Christmas includes a gift which children can choose from our Christmas Elf Toyshop!

Santa's grotto is located outside in our Winter Woodland so remember to wear your wellies and wrap up well! Choose a timeslot between 10am and 3.00pm
