Beginners' Traditional Willow Basket

An ideal first basket - this workshop introduces traditional willow stake-and-strand weaving to make a useful upright basket.

This is a small class workshop of six participants max.

You will learn how weave the base, prepare and add stakes, and weave the siding. Techniques will include pairing, waling and English randing, finishing with a simple trac border. Your tutor will be Hazel Godfrey, willow artist with 15+ years experience in willow tuition.

Completed baskets will measure 6-7 inches (15-18cm) in height and diameter.

All materials will be provided. No experience needed. Light refreshments, tea coffee etc will be available.

Join Laura from the Young Growers Club for this fun and interactive course to start you on your food growing journey.

As part of her aim to offer courses for busy parents, this hybrid course will provide a series of online modules that participants will be able to before an interactive in person session. Online we will cover the basics of food growing as well as key topics like companion planting and succession sowing. In person we will get our hands dirty sowing seeds, potting on and prepping beds.

The Summerfield Line will take you between Haynes End Station and Hammer Hill Station.

At Hammer Hill you will have the option of taking a ride on two more of our railways - The Springfield Line from platform 2 and The Winterfield Line from platform 3 - tickets for both are sold at Hammer Hill.

The picnic area at Hammer Hill will also be open for you to use, from where you will be able to watch the Garden Line in operation.

At Haynes End the Station Buffet will be open for refreshments and picnic tables are available for your use on the grass outside.

Steam engines will also be in action as often as we are able.

Drop in to our unique Colour/Music Sensory Installation in the Hat Factory Art Centre Studio space and create your own world of colour and music through movement.

Large fabric "sails" fill the space and reflect and mix colours and light that you, the public, create yourselves. Our resident composer, David Stevens, will be in the Space to show you how to create whole orchestras of sound with just the movement of your hands, feet - or literally any part of your body - moving over special laser movement sensors. Sound-paintings can also be played by moving your hands over the surface and you can "paint" rainbows of colour around the space.

Welcome to the Luton Little Bugs Club!

Calling all mini-wildlife explorers this Autumn!
Come and join us for a fun morning of exploration and discovery within the enclosed area of Wardown Park's arboretum, right next to the museum's car park.

This group is for pre-school children (aged 3-5 years old) and encourages outdoor play and discovery. Sessions run fortnightly on a Thursday morning and the aim is to build confidence of being in the outdoors for both children and their guardians and to connect with local green spaces. Enjoy crafts, story time and outdoor play in this lovely location.

Do you know any budding coders? Perhaps your LEGO lovers would like to try something new? We will be hosting two LEGO Spike sessions, which blends LEGO and coding into an exciting new project! 💻🧱
Our first session will be on Thursday 9th October at 4pm, and the second will be just in time for half term on Saturday 25th October at 10:30am. These sessions are recommended for ages 11-13 and cost £4.40 per child.

Halloween Evening with Owls - October 25th 5.30-8.30
Join us this Owl-oween for a spooktacular evening with our Owls!
The evening starts at 5.30 with a bbq of burgers, sausages and mixed salads accompanied by a soft drink. This is then followed by meeting and handling some of our owls, come face to face with the beautiful Barn Owl, feel the weight of the Giant Eagle Owl, meet our little Scops Owl and more. This is the perfect opportunity to ask the falconers any questions you have and take some photos.
Head out into the main arena where you can have a go at flying an owl for yourself, experience their silent flight as they glide into your gloved hand.
