St Albans District Sustainability Festival 2019

Published:

May 11th - June 1st sees the return of the award-winning St Albans Sustainability Festival - with three weeks of events all about the environment and sustainable living.  There are over 160 events across St Albans, Harpenden and the villages.  There is something for everyone to enjoy whatever your age or interests - many events are FREE.

There are loads of events to choose from - from guided walks to inspiring films; cookery classes to community food growing; cycle rides to story telling. Take your broken items to a repair fair, watch herons or join a community sports day.  Have an evening out at a talk on sustainable fashion, an introduction to green investment or a sustainable pub quiz.

Many events take place in Harpenden and the villages. There are family-friendly craft sessions, a plastic-free picnic and lots of fun with nature. Take the children river-dipping in the River Lea or visit an allotment open day in Batford; go “plogging” (jogging and litter picking) in Redbourn or help tidy up Wheathampstead’s green spaces. Local businesses are joining in too - Parker & Vine and Carpenters will both have festival discounts.

Visit the Market Takeover from 11am-5pm on Sunday 19th May when St Albans city centre will be filled with sustainability-themed stalls, food, music and activities all aimed at helping residents reduce their carbon footprint.

Thousands of children across the District will also be involved in the Sustainability Festival as schools, Scouting, Guiding and other youth groups will be joining in with their own events.

Programmes are available from local libraries, boxes outside the Harpenden Directory and Harpenden Town Information point or visit www.sustainablestalbans.org to find the full programme online.
