First Summer Holidays as a New Parent?

Published:

If you are a new parent, you may not have fully got your head around school holidays yet, and why you would you? You’re years away from having to worry about that! Despite your child not being at school, come the middle of July suddenly their (and let’s be honest your) usual activities are disrupted. Nightmare!

I remember last year while I was on maternity leave, the 6 weeks of summer left me a little lost. I had a ‘thing’ I did each day of the week (from baby sign, to support groups, to play groups) and then suddenly – poof! All gone!

Thankfully, I had recently discovered this site (I took over in the September following) and it showed me all about the great options that are still available, if in a slightly different way to how they are during term time. If you are looking for the best way to navigate your first summer holidays, try some of the options below:

  • Have you checked at the Children’s Centre’s Summer Timetable? Spaces on some of these can book up fast so make sure you don’t miss out!
  • There LOADS on at the library! So much so it has its own post that you can read here.
  • Does your usual class offer summer holiday options? Many of them do! Hopefully they have already been in contact with you about this. I’m trying my very best to get all these options listed on the ‘What’s On’ page but do reach out to providers in the meantime if there is something you are keen to get involved in.

And of course there is always the ‘What’s On’ page for year-round events, local and further afield.
