I’ve been coming to Jordan’s Mill based in Broom, Biggleswade for a few years now and always love the trails they do for children during the holidays throughout the year.
This summer Jordan’s Mill kindly gifted the trail sheets during our visit there. Here’s a review of our visit back in August.
Most of their trails run throughout the school holidays so please check what’s on. The next one will be at Halloween 🎃 which we can’t wait for! Jordan’s Mill is open daily, usually 9-4pm but please do check opening times when you plan to visit. There’s plenty of parking on site. To do the trail you need to buy the trail sheets from the shop which is located round on the right, as you come into the mill. Trails are usually £4 which will include a prize if you complete it.
We had a go at doing both trails that were running - The Summer Games and The Scouts Big Bug trail 🥇🏃🏼♀️🐞🐛🪲
On the way to the trail we had a walk through the beautiful gardens, which has all kinds of vegetables and plants growing. The kids loved running around all the different pathways.
The trails always start in the meadow, so just cross the bridge and through the gate and you’ll see it. You can usually work your way round in any order but we tend to always go to the left hand side and work our way towards the woods. The trails are pretty self explanatory and there’s extra guidance in the trail sheets where you write your score and answer. You usually have to find all the letters to unscramble them to make a word, to get your prize! The boys particularly loved The Summer Games trail. It was very interactive and they really enjoyed throwing the bean bags in the baskets, sprinting and hurdles to a stopwatch and kicking the football in the holes.
We then wandered into the woods to do The Scouts Big Bug trail. Hidden in the woods were a few bugs all made from recycled materials by the 1st Fairfield Park Scouts group! They looked incredible and you could tell a lot of work went into them. The kids enjoyed learning some facts about them and finding the letter! In the woods they also have a wooden car and wooden seats which my boys have always loved playing on every time we visit.
Once we finished our trails we walked back to the shop and the kids handed in their completed trail sheets and picked their prize. I have found when trying out different trails in other places that Jordan’s Mill always provide great prizes and suitable for all ages too! My boys chose a football and a little windmill which they both loved! The shop sells all kinds of gifts and treats and you can get takeaway tea, coffee and hot choc too which is nice for the winter months as you’re doing the trail.
There is a café there too which serves hot and cold food, we didn’t use it this time but have done in the past and usually we have been lucky enough to sit outside, but there is plenty of seats inside too.
One thing I found really interesting which I am yet to try but would love to in the future is a tour of the Mill. The Mill Museum is open for tours Wednesday-Sunday 10.45am-15.15pm until 4th November. So well worth checking that out! Jordan's Mill usually run Craft & Food Fayre's monthly so keep an eye out for the next one. They're also running Children's Crafts in September so grab a ticket for that one.
I found this was a great way to spend a couple of hours or so with the kids, get them out in fresh air and learn something whilst having lots of fun. It's also so handy with the location, only 20 minutes from Ampthill and perfect for meeting up with friends. I really recommend it to all ages and I know parents, grandparents and carers would enjoy getting involved too! Definitely recommend trying out the next trail. For up to date information and opening hours check out their website.
