Children's activity clubs & classes

Young Artists Club is a fun and inspiring Saturday morning weekly art class for kids aged 8-12 in central Hitchin, currently with spaces.

Combining freedom of expression with learning new techniques (and a tiny bit of art history), the classes are designed to offer a space for experimentation, play and learning, in a nurturing and safe environment. And of course, the young artists create something they are proud of to take home each time, with the materials and the mess all taken care of!

We have monthly themes which the children often choose- think food, animals or space, and every week we explore a new artistic technique or medium. We have a weekly artist of inspiration relating to the theme or technique whose work we look at; I offer the children the materials, show them how to use them, then simply allow them to fly.

From painting sound, looking at flowers in a still life while classical music plays- like Kandinsky, to painting sweets like local legend Sarah Graham; from using clay channeling Oldenburg, making mobiles like Alexander Calder or drawing tigers like Rousseau, every week is different and exciting. The group of maximum six is small enough for each child to get plenty of support and big enough for opportunities to use hands and imaginations, alongside peers outside of the classroom.

Get in touch if you'd like to book a Saturday for your young artist. In the words of the parent of one of our regulars, “this continues to be the highlight of my daughter's week”.

Adults are welcome to stay with their child, or free to leave: I am DBS checked and a mother of four with many years of experience.
