Avara Outdoor Classroom

Avara Outdoor Classroom is a gentle, teacher-led outdoor learning space nestled within the beautiful Dunton Community Garden near Biggleswade.
At Avara, children learn through real experiences in nature, including planting and caring for the fruits and vegetables, investigating minibeasts and garden creatures, noticing the changing weather and seasons, sharing stories, creating, exploring and building confidence outdoors in a calm, welcoming environment.
Mondays:
Home Education Summer Sessions | Mondays 10–11 am | Ages 4–7 & 1-2 pm | Ages 8-11
Small-group, parent-attended sessions led by a qualified Primary teacher, where children explore maths and literacy through meaningful outdoor projects and hands-on experiences in nature.
Children might measure and map parts of the garden, create nature journals, write signs and information leaflets, investigate wildlife habitats, or work collaboratively on seasonal projects together.
Parents are welcome to join in as little or as much as they like and enjoy a hot drink in the garden.
Tuesdays:
Childminder Nature & Gardening Sessions | Tuesdays 10-11 am
A calm, welcoming outdoor session designed for childminders and the children in their care. Little ones can explore the garden at their own pace through seasonal nature activities, gardening experiences, songs, stories, sensory play and investigating the creatures living in the garden.
Mixed Age Nature & Gardening Sessions | Tuesdays 1-2 pm
A relaxed mixed-age session for families to enjoy together outdoors. Children can help care for the garden, explore nature, enjoy seasonal activities and learn through hands-on experiences in a peaceful community space.
Wednesdays:
Avara Beginnings (0–2 years) | Wednesdays 10-11 am
A relaxed parent & child session with songs, sensory experiences, nature play and first discoveries in the garden.
Avara Explorers (3–4 years) | Wednesdays 1-2pm
Playful, guided outdoor sessions encouraging curiosity, early language, independence and connection with the natural world alongside their grown-up.
Children spend time in the vegetable patch, care for the garden together, investigate the creatures living around them and enjoy seasonal activities inspired by nature each week.
Trial sessions for all sessions are available before booking a block.
Help yourself to a tea or coffee! There is a loo and fresh water at the site.
Located at the peaceful Dunton Community Garden near Biggleswade. Arrival via the bridleway only. Please see the website for directions.
