Paper Lanterns Workshop (Age 8+) – October Half Term Workshops
Southern Maltings
Fri 1st November 2024
2pm
Paper Lanterns Workshop. To celebrate the winter, the nights drawing in and the Hindu Festival of Diwali we are hosting a Paper Light Lantern Decorating Workshop!
In this workshop children 8+ years will decorate their own paper lantern to their own unique design. They will also have access to our three Sizzix machines that will help you create amazing cut outs. You can then decorate your lanterns using your cutouts using colouredtissue paper, decoupage papers and other materials to create your own unique paper lanterns to hang up in your home or garden. Each Lantern will contain a small battery operated light.
This is a fun and calming craft for any age and any ability! Use tissue paper to transform your lanterns to any colour of design, adding personalised touches to any space.
Diwali is a five-day Festival of Lights starting on 1st November and is celebrated by millions of Hindus, Sikhs and Jains across the world. Diwali s a festival of new beginnings and the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness.
This workshop will be lead by tutor Tina Goodman. Tina studied art & design before conforming to a more traditional career, but crafting has always been her passion, and she describes herself as a 'serial crafter'! At every spare opportunity, she has learned new skills and techniques, which she has happily passed on during group crafting sessions. Tina has been a lead Fun Palace maker for a number of years, during which she has taught some of these skills to the participants at Ware's the Fun Palace (including a video tutorial on how to make a document wallet from on-line delivery packaging during the lockdown fun palace).
Additional Information:
The workshop is being run with a maximum capacity of 12 and will be from 2pm -4pm on Friday 1st November. This is a 2 hr drop off workshop.
This session will be held in our lower studio.
This Paper Lantern Workshop is suitable for ages 8+ and is costed at £15 including all materials. Each workshop attendee will have 1 x xcm lantern to decorate.
We suggest all attendees wear old clothes as they will be using acrylic paint and glue and other mediums which can stain.

Southern Maltings is a beautiful historic building that volunteers are developing into an amazing not-for-profit arts and performance centre.
