Treat the children to a special late night to see how this beautiful nature reserve in Ramsey Heights comes alive after dark. We will use bat detectors to listen to and identify the local species of bats, set out a moth trap to entice fascinating flying visitors, listen out for calling owls and go scouting for other nocturnal sights and sounds around the reserve. Intro To Invertebrates with Brian Eversham
Wildlife Trust Countryside Centre, Ramsey Heights

This day will explain why invertebrates matter, and how their ecology and behaviour affects the ways in which we survey for them. We will try out the range of techniques for finding and surveying invertebrates in grasslands, scrub, woodland and ponds. This will include direct searching and transects, sampling methods such as beating and sweeping, and trapping techniques such as pitfalls and baited traps (with syrup for ants!). Ages 13+. Childless toymaker Geppetto makes a wooden puppet - little realising the chaos he is about to unleash. The puppet yearns for adventure and runs away, but instead of excitement only finds glorious attractions containing hidden dangers. He returns home hoping to be showered with sympathy and learns his tribulations are just beginning. Running away hasn't worked; lying won't work; he must become a real boy to achieve the belonging he craves.
