WGC 100

Published:

WGC turns 100 this year!  What a fabulous year to be launching Mums Guide to Welwyn, in a year full of events and celebrations!

The celebrations begin this weekend with Garden City Lights on Friday 17th & Saturday 18th January. Welwyn Garden will be truly lit up with installations which will form a trail set amongst the town centre’s unique and iconic landscape. A real community collaboration this has been created by  of artists, designers, technologists and professional lighting specialists and produced by Vortex Events & WGC Bid, with support from the School of Creative Arts at the University of Hertfordshire, local arts and music groups, schools, colleges, and youth groups. The lights will tell the story of WGC.

I can't wait to see what they have in store for us. Will definitely be going along and am doing a non rain dance in the lead up to the weekend!  The children are going to love the lantern and music parades that start the celebrations on each day.

The lights are just the start of a whole host of wonderful events and celebrations planned.

In the Summer we are having a Carnival, I remember we always used to have a Carnival in the town when I was growing up - I even participated a couple of times - maybe we can sneak a Mums Guide Float in this year?!

There are lots of sporting and music events coming up throughout the year for everyone to enjoy.

A 20.20km walk has been designed to circle the villages surrounding Welwyn Garden City, I'm setting myself a challenge to walk it - not all in one day but in sections - come on I'm good but not that good - I'm blaming it on the kids and a chihuahua lets face it I'd end up having to carry them all!

There is so much planned, I cannot wait to share it all with you.
