February 2020 Half Term Highlights

How is it almost half term already? As ever, it’s a juggling act – you’ll need something to entertain the kids but don’t want to spend a fortune or travel too far doing it.

Never fear, we’ve got the pick of the best local things going on – not a definitive list by any means (you can find that here) – simply our recommendations, plus a few things you may not have thought of.

Mad Science at the St Albans Museum + Gallery

At the St Albans Museum + Gallery in the middle of town, there will be a FREE drop-in event called "Mad Science at the Museum" on Saturday 15th February. Enjoy an afternoon of surprises and pop up experiments with a scientist from the Mad Science team between 2pm-4pm.

Help make a Dragon!

Also at the the St Albans Museum + Gallery, there will be another free drop-in on Tuesday 18th and Wednesday 19th February. This time it'll be joining in making a large-scale dragon which will be used in a special performance evening on Thursday 20th February to tell part of St Albans’ pageant story. In this family workshop you'll get the chance to work with experienced stage and costume designers to create the dragon and bring it to life.

Meet a Roman Soldier at Verulamium Museum

Want to meet an actual Roman Soldier? Head to the Verulamium Museum on Tuesday 18th February to meet Decanus Laurentius Calvus Petronius. This activity is free with admission (Verulamium Museum is free to all St Albans residents - just bring proof of address).

Anne Frank at St Albans Cathedral

This is one not to be missed. An incredible exhibition called 'Anne Frank + You' is coming to St Albans Cathedral until 20th February, run by The Anne Frank Trust UK. The exhibition includes a life-sized replica of Anne's bedroom in the 'secret annexe'. Recommended for age 10yrs+.

Free Family Discovery Morning

Also at St Albans Cathedral is the Family Discovery Morning, 10am to 12.30pm on Thursday 20th February. The free trail allows you to explore the Cathedral with plenty of opportunity for arts and crafts along the way. Suitable for children aged 3-11 years old.

Biscuits and Bird Feeders at Burston Garden Centre

From Monday to Friday of Half Term, Burston Garden Centre are running two activities for kids - painting and decorating your own bird feeder and biscuit decorating. £4 per child and booking online in advance is recommended.

Planetarium at Dunstable Downs

The mobile planetarium returns for another year to Dunstable Downs from Wednesday 19th to Saturday 22nd February. Relax, sit back and enjoy yourself under the projected stars and experience the wonders of the solar systems.
