St Albans Roman Festival

The St Albans Roman Festival starts soon on Friday 21st June and lasts for 10 days with loads on for people of all ages. Our website has all the family friendly events listed on the ‘What’s On’ page but we wanted to call out a few specifically that you and your littlies might be interested in. Click on the links for more information.


1. Roman Arts and Crafts
Date
: Friday 21st to Sunday 30th June
Time: 8:30am - 5:30pm daily
Where: St Albans Cathedral
What: Roman themed arts and craft activities in the cathedral. 
Suitable for: Everyone
Price: Free (donations welcome)


2. Alban Pilgrimage 
Date: Saturday 22nd June
Time
: 11am
Where: City centre
What: Starting at St Peter’s Church, a magnificent procession with 12ft carnival puppets will take to the streets to tell the story of Alban.
Suitable for: Everyone
Price: Free 

3. Alban Fest!
Date: Saturday 22nd June
Time: 12noon - 6pm
Where: Abbey Orchard
What: Head to the Abbey Orchard for an afternoon of Roman themed activities for the whole family.
Suitable for: Everyone
Price: Free

4. Roman Dressing up
Date: Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd June
Time
: 10:30am - 5pm
Where: St Albans Clock Tower
What: Climb to the top of the Clock Tower where the whole family can dress up as Roman soliders!
Suitable for: Everyone
Price: £1 for adults / under 12s go free

5. Empress and Emperor Party
Date: Sunday 23rd June
Time: 11am - 11:45am and 12:30pm - 1:15pm
Where: Inn on the Park
What: Dress up in your best toga and join Empress Kate from Wish Upon a Party for traditional party games along with Roman themed story telling and drama activities.
Suitable for: Ages 3-8
Price: £8.50 per child per session 

6. Young People’s Puppet Theatre: The Crossing Place and A Grim Day Out
Date: Monday 24th June
Time
: 7:30pm - 8:30pm and 8:30pm - 9:30pm
Where: St Albans Cathedral
What: Watch your favourite Cathedral characters take to the stage in two marionette-puppet productions. The Crossing Place (7:30pm) and A Grim Day Out (8:30pm). 
Suitable for: Ages 7+
Price: £5 per person


7. Making Mosaic Masks

Date: Saturday 29th June
Time: 10am - 12pm
Where: Trestle Arts Base
What: Head to Trestle to find out about Roman Theatre masks and make your own mask with mosaic decorations. 
Suitable for: Everyone
Price: Free (donations welcome)


8. St Albans Folk Festival Day of Dance and Music
Date: Saturday 29th June
Time: 10am - 4pm
Where: Starting at the Alban Arena and then throughout town
What: Performances by St Albans folk dance groups and their guests.
Suitable for: Everyone
Price: Free (donations welcome)


9. Larkus in the Parkus
Date: Sunday 30th June
Time
: 12noon - 5pm
Where: Victoria Playing Fields, Fleetville Recreation Ground, Marlborough Club, London Colney Community Centre, Batford Springs
What: This free annual community event marches back to its roots as it embraces St Albans’ Roman heritage. 
Suitable for: Everyone
