Minnis Bay Beach
Minnis Bay is a long family-friendly stretch of beach in the village of Birchington-on-Sea in an area known as the Isle of Thanet. It is east of the Thames Estuary, facing the North Sea midway between Herne Bay and Margate.
The Blue Flag beach has opportunities for watersports activities include sailing, windsurfing, paddling, kayaking and beach games. There's a paddling pool for youngsters and a lifeguard service.
Like the surrounding area, the beach is almost flat and bordered by sand dunes. At low tide, a large expanse of sand is exposed and is ideal for walking, ball games and sunbathing.
Minnis Bay is home to a good range of amenities including free car parking, toilets and a well-equipped children's play area. There's also a picnic area, kiosk for ice creams and a cafe on the promenade.
The area is served by an open-top bus in summer, or bring bicycles and you can ride from Minnis Bay along the Viking Coastal Trail to Margate. Dogs are banned in summer.
