Night Nannies

Published:

My name is Hannah and I started night nannying myself around 10 years ago now. I am a mother of two myself but they are certainly past the newborn phase! I wanted to do something that I saw the benefits from and I love working with people and offering support, so this seemed to be the perfect job. Working with parents and their babies is so rewarding. Especially when you start to see the difference you are having on that family. Sleep deprivation effects every aspect of family life and you really can see that when you start some positions.

Night Nannies is an agency that was established over 15 years ago and offers new mothers overnight care for their newborns. We are pro breastfeeding and all our Night Nannies are qualified, DBS checked and insured to ensure they offer the very best level of care whether a mother is looking for a good night’s sleep, some informed advice or help in establishing a consistent sleeping and feeding routine. I took the agency over in 2015 and have helped 100’s of families by providing night nannies, maternity nurses and sleep consultants. It’s incredibly rewarding. From taking that first phone call to speaking to the family when the position has come to a close, you really get to see the impact you have had on them (in a positive way!).

A bit about Night Nannies:

Night Nannies, available throughout Essex & North London.

Night Nannies is a specialist agency, offering qualified, carefully checked and interviewed night nannies and sleep trainers who can help you with your baby in those early weeks and months.

Who uses a Night Nanny?

Anyone! You may be having your first baby and be looking for some support in those early weeks, and a night nanny can really help to guide your baby into a sustainable sleeping and feeding routine at night. Or you may be having your second child and need some help at nights to give you the energy to run round after an energetic toddler as well as your newborn during the day. You may have had a c-section and be in need of help with lifting and caring for your newborn. Or you may have twins – we have some excellent twins specialists who have looked after numerous sets of babies before and can offer you lots of hints and tips for feeding them and settling them. All our night nannies have experience of colic and reflux too.

But how will it work if I’m breastfeeding?

A night nanny will either offer your baby expressed milk in a bottle for the nights, or she will bring your baby to you for the actual feed, and take over again for the changing and settling afterwards – often the most time-consuming part! You can then go straight back to sleep and wake up far more rested in the morning.

How many nights do I need to book?

We aim to be as flexible as possible to meet your needs, so as long as you can give us a rough idea of how many nights you would like each week, you really can book as many or as few as you need. Some families prefer 5 nights a week, others are happy with just one night a week – it’s entirely up to you.

When is the best time to book a night nanny?

I can generally find you someone within a few days of your call or email, but the more notice I have, the more choice available to you. And as for when you should book a night nanny to start, I generally recommend you book them from as early as your baby’s first few nights at home with you – they really can help you establish breastfeeding and develop a good routine from the outset. It’s not about imposing a rigid routine, it’s more about offering you guidance on feeding and sleeping and strategies for settling your baby.

Who are your night nannies?

Our night nannies mostly are mothers themselves, have lots of experience, a kind and gentle approach and can offer you help and support in a friendly and collaborative way in those early weeks and months.  They come from a range of backgrounds – from NHS nurses who have worked in maternity wards, to daily nannies, to paramedics. The key is, they must have excellent references and lots of experience to share.

If you’re interested, please do call or email me any time, I would be happy to help.
