Wild Explorers - Berman Park, St Ives
Berman Park
Tue 23rd August 2022
What better way to spend a morning than in the pursuit of new species? On this Fieldfare Family Expedition, you will take on the role of scientist-explorers on a search for all forms of nature and wildlife.
The event begins at Fieldfare Base Camp with an introduction from Dr. Jade Gunnell who talks about what it is like to be a scientist-explorer and the types of skills needed. She will discuss how and where to look for different species and then set you the challenge of finding 6 different types of wildlife:
• a bird
• a flying insect
• a crawling insect
• a flower
• a tree
• and then something you have never seen before.
Equipped with recording sheet, clipboard, pencil, magnifying glass and specimen jar, you will head off, as a family, in search new and exciting finds. When you return to base camp you can present your finds to the rest of the expedition team, and Dr. Jade will discuss the different finds of the day, recording them on the Fieldfare Expedition Finds list.
This event is managed using timed 1 hour and 10 minute slots, with a maximum of 6 families starting and finishing together. The central part of the session is self-guided as you explore the green space, as a family.
This event is suitable for families with children aged 4-11 years old.
This event is also accessible to children with special education needs.
