We were delighted to receive our invitation to the ball and jumped at the chance to review BEAMS first Christmas Panto - Cinderella and the glass slipper.
It was actually our first visit to see a show in the completely re-branded theatre (just down wind of Ware!) so we arrived early to grab a drink before taking our seats for the show. We were seated in the stalls and had an excellent view!
My relationship with the (what was) Hertford Theatre was longstanding and their previous Christmas offerings were always outstanding and so I did have a moment of worry, would the new show be as good? Could it match up to our high expectations?
Well I need not have worried as the show captivated us from the very first moment and had us bopping in our seats and grinning ear to ear (one might say we were BEAMing!).
A fabulously talented cast , stunning set design and lighting.
Dev Joshi made the most beautiful (and sparkly) fairy godmother whose sincerity shone across the stage.
Kaysha Nada was a revelation as Cinderella , beautiful, touching and a voice to melt even the coldest of hearts.
Morgan Phillips as Buttons had us laughing out loud, absolutely brilliant, it's rare that panto jokes are actually properly funny but he was fantastic and has us really chuckling!
Katie Marie Carter and Alice Imelda were perhaps the most beautiful ugly sisters (Claudia and Tess) I have ever seen! Fantastic, super funny, powerhouse voices, they absolutely captivated the audience , possibly the best "ugly sisters" I've ever seen in a panto! Just don't feed them chocolate cake!
Timothy Mylechreest made for a rather dashing Prince Charming and Joshua Oakes Rogers was fantastic as Dandini, making a real double act with Buttons, the letter posting scene was hysterical!
Supported by a very talented junior ensemble - who genuinely were excellent! Shout out to the Troll of Hartham Common- loved that!
There's a few twists on the traditional tale as one would expect when it comes to panto but this Christmas show right in the heart of Hertford will tick all the boxes this Christmas.
With a show of this calibre there really is no need to venture into London - BEAM has got everything you need for a Christmas show and then some!
You'll laugh, cry and want to dance in the aisles! So what are you waiting for - go and book your tickets!!
There's still time to get your ticket to the ball -the ideal post Christmas trip!
The show lasts approximately 2 hours, with a 20 minute interval - ideal time to sample the ice cream - delicious!
Cinderella and the glass slipper is running at BEAM until 1st January - Book your tickets here.
