What's On October Half Term 2021


With Halloween at the end of the half term break this year, there's a whole lot of fun to be had with lots of events taking place in the lead up to it.

Whether you're looking for full-on entertainment, organised Halloween fun or an excuse to get your winter warmers on and simply crunch some leaves, you'll not be lost for inspiration with our list below.

Hemel Hempstead Old Town's Halloween Trail

Why not take part in the Old Town's first ever Halloween Trail? This year shop owners have gone all out in creating the most spook-tastic shop windows in the lead up to Halloween.

Skeletons, cobwebs, pumpkins and more frame the doorways of 28 shops throughout the High Street and you can now follow the digital trail and vote for your favourite thanks to Loyal Free. Simply download the app at: www.loyalfree.co.uk and pick a winner. In taking part, you could win a £50 voucher to spend on the High Street or tickets to see a show at the Old Town Hall.

The trail is now live and will run up until Sunday 31st October. 


Langleybury Children's Farm 

To celebrate their final day of opening to the public this year, Langleybury Children's Farm will host a pumpkin hunt at the farm from 11am - 5pm on Saturday 30th October.

In addition to being able to view and feed the usual animals at the farm, children will also be able to take part in a pumpkin hunt and carve their pumpkins onsite.

Tickets will need to be booked in advance via their website. Please note tickets will not include the cost of the pumpkin hunt, but these can be bought on the day in the shop on arrival.

Gruesome Gardens

Look out for bats, skeletons, ghosts and ghouls hidden in and around the gardens of Ashridge House, as part of their Gruesome Gardens Trail this Halloween.

The trail will be open from Monday 25th - Thursday 28th October (9.30am -4.30pm).

Tickets will need to be booked in advance and include a small booking fee.

Adults: £8.50. Children (12 and under): £6.50. Infants (2 and under): £2.50.

Halloween at Hatfield House - Frightown 

Craft some decorations and souvenirs in the Goblins makers tent; solve the story puzzle and hear of ancient Frightown folklore; help the Wacky Witch prepare the unusual festival feast; remind the forgetful Boogey Man the lyrics to his song; and join the dance party at the Skelton cabaret!

All this and more awaits you at Frightown - a Halloween festival for all the family, held at Hatfield House from Thursday 28th - Sunday 31st October: 10am - 3.30pm.

Tickets will need to be booked in advance via their website.

£15 adult. £15 child. £50 family ticket (for 4).

Aldenham Country Park Spook-Fest, Elstree

This year's Spook-Fest returns at Aldenham Country Park from Saturday 16th - Sunday 31st October and organisers have promised it will be their best yet!

Pick and carve a pumpkin, see how many creepy crawlies you can spot in bug alley and keep your eyes peeled throughout the country park for pumpkin bingo. All this spook-tastic fun and lots more, including: monster bales and Horrid Hay tractor rides.

Tickets must be booked in advance. Adults: £7.50. Children: £7.50. Under 2s go free, but will still need a ticket.

Superheroes Trail 

Your little superheroes will have fun spotting their favourites in Hemel over the next few weeks, at six of DC and Marvel's finest will be dotted in and around The Marlowes Shopping Centre, ready for them to find, as part of a Superhero Trail. See how many yours can find and have their pics taken alongside.

You should spot: Spiderman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Captain America, Captain Marvel and Batman.

The trail is now on and up until Wednesday 3rd November 2021.

Halloween in Hemel

Hemel Hempstead Bid are hosting a week of free activities for your little ones to join in. You'll find all the fun at The Rainbow Stage in the town centre from Tuesday 26th - Sunday 31st October. Activities will run from 11am - 3pm most of these days and sessions are as follows...

  • Interactive Musical Storytelling with Imagica - Tuesday 26th & Sunday 31st October: 11.30am - 3pm.

Friendly witches Luna Toffee Apple and Tangerine Twist are busy getting ready to celebrate Halloween. They are busy practicing their spells and creating potions to ensure all their friends have a Happy Halloween. Promoting a positive sense of wellbeing and that we can all achieve if we put our minds to it.

Filled with lots of singing, dance and drama, our interactive musical storytelling session are great for the whole family. Learn an easy-to-follow dance routine and enjoy parodies of popular song from artists such as Rhianna, Rita Ora, Megan Trainer & Bruno Mars.

  • Halloween Spooktacular Interactive Children's Shows with Magic Story Elves - Thursday 28th October: 11.30am- 3pm.

You'll meet Hazel the trainee witch and her pet cat who need your help at the training academy to pass her magic exams. Join in with the games and dances and have your photo taken with her.

Shows will take place at 11:30, 12:30, 1:30pm and 2:30pm.

  • Decorate a pumpkin - Saturday 30th October: 11am - 3pm.

    Wander through our secret pumpkin patch and pick your very own perfect pumpkin (or will it choose you?!) Once you’ve selected your favourite, give it character by decorating it with fun face or take it home to carve. (Pumpkin numbers are limited).

Woodside Animal Farm Halloween Fun, Slip End

Saturday 23rd - Sunday 31st October

Tickets are still available (and will need to be booked in advance) for Woodside's spooktastic Halloween Event this Autumn. Kicking off on Saturday 23rd October.

Create a cookie, make a ghoulish Halloween decoration to take home and keep, find the witches, ghosts and golden pumpkin hidden in and around the farm to win a gruesome prize! All this in addition to the usual animals, bouncy pillows and tractor rides included in your entry price. An extra fee applies to pick a pumpkin from their patch.

Tickets need to be booked in advance. Adults & children (non-members): £13.50. Children (members): £4. Under 2s are free but will still need a ticket.

Mead Open Farm Pumpkin Spooktacular, Leighton Buzzard

Saturday 23rd – Sunday 31st October.

There's always a whole lot of fun to be had at Mead Open Farm, and this Halloween is no exception.

Help Little Red Riding Hood find her way back to Grandma's House in "Scary Tales". Brave the terrific twists and turns of Mr Toppers' Twister. And befriend the ghosts and gruesome ghouls in the haunted house. All this in addition to the usual fun of the farm including; tractor rides, bouncing pillows, ride-ons/go-karts & crazy golf.

Tickets need to be booked in advance and will include a pumpkin for every paying child.

Adults: £12.45 - £16.25, Children £11.45 - £15.25. Under 18 months go free, but will still need a ticket.

Zoorassic Park (Whipsnade Zoo)

Don't miss out on the the chance to see these life-like animatronic dinos at Whispnade Zoo. Take the tour around a special dino enclosure, where you can learn more about their diets, compare your teeth to a Tyrannosaurus Rex's and take part in a dino dig! 

Zoorassic Park is included in the price of a usual ticket and will be open until Sunday 31st October.

Ticket prices vary and it is advisable to book online in advance.
