Hertfordshire's Pumpkin Patches 2020


Halloween activities have understandably been scaled back this year however there are still plenty of pumpkins that need picking across Hertfordshire!

Pumpkin picking is a great excuse to get out in the autumn air with all the family and with various pumpkin patches around, from those on farms to pop up patches, it doesn’t need to be expensive either. This year however, most patches have a booking system in place to reduce numbers and ensure social distancing is observed, so you will be unable to just turn up. We’ve put together a list of the nearest pumpkin patches to Hemel Hempstead along with their opening dates and booking terms:

Rumblers Farm, Potten End

The Pop up Farm, J9 M1

Opening Friday 2nd October.

Unable to open earlier this year for Sunflowers, The Pop Up Farm are back with their pumpkins and bigger and better, 55m straw maze. Entry is via pre-booked tickets only which will be released gradually throughout the month so that they are able to restrict numbers and shut if the government guidelines change later in the month. Tickets are £2.95 each and restricted to 6 per customer. Under 2’s free. More info and booking here.


Willow’s Farm Pumpkin Festival, St Albans

17th October – 1st November.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions Willow’s cannot offer shared pumpkin carving utensils this year so staff will cut the top off your pumpkin and children’s pumpkin carving kits will be available to purchase, alternatively you can take your pumpkin home to carve. There’s also a Pumpkin Hunt and a new Gourds Grotto, plus pumpkin biscuit decorating too.

Normal entry prices to the farm apply but every child will then receive a free pumpkin (picked from the patch!), pumpkin hunt prize, biscuit decorating and 3D cinema glasses. For free under 2 tickets, you can buy a Pumpkin Activity Pack (online or at admission) to include all these activities. More info and booking here.


Windy’s Pumpkin Patch, Dunstable

17th – 31st October

The first year Windy Willows Christmas Tree Yard has opened their pumpkin patch and it sounds fantastic. There is a trail around the patch featuring ghouls and gremlins, you can then carve your pumpkin and finish up in Windy’s Deli & Grill. The pumpkins are sanitised on a regular basis and at point of sale. Pre-booked tickets and no groups of more than 6. The patch will also be marshalled during weekends. pre-booked tickets only. Farmer Paul's Pumpkins, Ayelsbury

3rd - 31st October

Farmer Paul specialises in Giant Pumpkins but also has a huge variety of unusual gourds and funky pumpkins in many different shapes and sizes.Open Thursday to Sunday only and the week of half term. Entry to the pumpkin barn is free and then pumpkins start at 50p. Face masks are to be worn in the barn and hand sanitiser to be used before entering, please bring your own where possible. There will be a one way system through the pumpkins and displays. The Entrance and Exit will be clearly marked and social distancing is to be observed. More info here.


Woodside Animal Farm Halloween Fun

24th - 31st October

Take part in the halloween fun whilst seeing the animals at Woodside Animal Farm. A small extra charge applies to go into the pumpkin patch. Tickets are pre-book online only to allow your contact details to be available for NHS Track and Trace and bookings are currently limited to a maximum of 6 people.   There are hand washing and hand sanitiser stations around the park with good signage to remind you to wash your hands and how to do it properly. Social distancing, queuing and one-way systems are in place at the entrance chalet, in the shop and café. Mead Open Farm Pumpkin FunFest, Leighton Buzzard

24th September – 31st October.

All visits must be pre-booked online and include a free pumpkin from the pumpkin patch, pumpkin carving, tiny terrors tractor ride, trick or treat Halloween show, soft play (in 30 minute sessions – first come first served basis) and all the other animal and outdoor activities! More info here.


Lillingstone Pick Your Own Pumpkins, Milton Keynes

Weekends from 26th September and during the whole of half term.

Hop on a tractor to ride down to this 5 acre pumpkin patch featuring around 15,000 pumpkins and gourds of many different varieties and this year also has a Maize Maze alongside pony rides and pony grooming sessions. Pre-booked tickets only, £5 per vehicle. More info and booking here.


Aldenham Country Park Spook Fest, Elstree

16th October – 1st November.

Pick a pumpkin from the pumpkin patch and carve it, explore the spooky shack, take a horrid hay ride and play pumpkin bingo, all alongside the usual farm favourites. Tickets must be purchased in advance. Many activities are included in the entry fee whilst some activities such as pumpkin carving are an additional fee. More info and booking here.

Hitchin Lavender Pumpkins SOLD OUT

24th - 31st October

This Autumn Hitchin Lavender is open to a limited number of people to enjoy the acres of pumpkins we have. They have introduced time slots to help stagger visitors entering the farm, reduce queuing times and limit the numbers of visitors. £4 per ticket.
